Remixing (etiquette question)

If I remix someone's project, other than crediting the original (or remix that I downloaded) in the Project Notes section, is there anything else I should do? Should the title include the word REMIX? How about if I remix my own project? Should it say Version 2, or REMIX, or UPDATE in the title?

I just want to make sure that I give full credit where it is due. That's only fair, right?

Thanks!

Re: Remixing (etiquette question)

You don't have to do anything. It already gives credit automatically. You just can't say you made whatever you didn't make

Re: Remixing (etiquette question)

If it's your own project it doesn't really matter. You can't complain to yourself for not giving yourself credit. XD

If it's someone else's project it's good to give most credit to the original author. Try putting this notice in the project - some people don't bother reading the project notes >.>

Paradox, I don't understand. How does it give credit automatically? If I change things and upload it, it will automatically tell that it was a remix?

Every project that is uploaded is now given some kind of identification code. So if you download a project and then make changes to it, when you upload your remix Scratch will know that you based it on that previous project.  In fact, under the display window on your project's page it will give your name, and below that it will say, "Based on.....'s project."

And, both the previous author's name and the previous project will be live links.  So anyone who wants to see the original version can click on "project" and go there.

Or, they can click on the previous author's name and they'll be taken to that person's Scratch page with all their projects.

It's a really great feature in Scratch.  It helps reduce arguments and hurt feelings, and gives credit where credit is due....automatically.

Re: Remixing (etiquette question)

Most people consider it nice to add credit in the project notes as well - at least that way you actually do something for giving credit, instead of it being done without you.

Re: Remixing (etiquette question)

I say you should just give credit in the project notes... inside the project isn't entirely necessary.

But the important thing to do is avoid claiming it as your own work.
