I belive my computer is infected with a virus. One by one, my files are disappearing, and, oddly enough, new ones are being added. Does this sound strange to you?

unless someone is using your pc in your family...

NO! I'm the only one using it! Ever!

someone must be controlling your files via trojans and installing other malware on your computer. You can get viruses from infected files you downloaded recently. Thats why you should always have an anti virus running

I do! It's been beeping, but I don't know how to use it! I'm not sure...I think it's only the trojan and VERY annoying. It's taking me FOREVER to write my book and type in forum posts! It only happens at certain times of the day, though, so I think that someone might be using Beast.
(Edit: definitely outposted.)

It says "no threat detected"
Really odd.
ANd, yes, I'm using Windows 2000 which rules the universe. (Okay, kidding, linux does.)

Can't find any helpful results on how to remove it...
Anyway here's some information about it:
This virus infects Word 97 and Word 2000 documents. The virus code is contained in one macro named "AUTOOPEN". This macro will be in the "ThisDocument" module of the infected file. This virus also carries an embedded object called i.exe, which is a PE executable file. When an infected document is opened it runs embedded i.exe file, which installs itself under WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. It selects a random name from the list of DLL files from the same directory, with an EXE extension. The program goes memory resident during the next boot up and infects documents used under Word 97.

That's quite a virus.
What you should do right now is boot in safe mode. Restart your computer while holding the F8 key until you get a menu, then select "Safe Mode". Now the virus won't be able to open.
Also, you should try installing MalwareBytes. It's 100% free and can detect a lot of viruses.
Do you happen to know what the virus is called? Because that would help a lot.
Edit: It's called "beast"? I'll do some research.
Edit2: I found something. It says that a program "Protector Plus" can remove it. I've never hear of it, though, so I'm not sure.

Look it up on Wikipedia. That's how I found out about it. There's even a screenshot.

I think that's the name of the computer. I know nothing about W. 2000, but here's what I would do if the computer starts to lose its abilities. My W. Vista came with 2 disks that reset the computer to factory settings. if you have those, before putting it in you should save images you want to keep on a usb drive. (pictures should be safe, right)

I'm a techie, but I have no idea whats wrong.
Perscription: Buy a new computer.
PS: Macs are better and faster. They get less viruses and are sleeker and more modern!

That's because the site you found it on (If you searched what I searched) belongs to the company that makes that Anti-virus program.

So you're not a techie!
Boot up into safe mode. I remember a good antivirus program but I forgot its name...
Can I see the wikipedia article?
What have you recently downloaded?
What browser and OS do you use?

I think you are exaggerating the truth, your internet is probably running slow and you are making a big mess outta of nothing i will no longer participate

I am NOT exaggerating. My files are deleting themselves. My internet isn't running slow. You can't read my mind. You can't see my computer. You're not me.
But, anyway, back on topic.
THe beast wikipedia article is here.

I read through that Wikipedia article. That trojan seems really dangerous, you need to get rid of that ASAP.
You've booted in safe mode, right? That's the best thing to do right now. You can probably uninstall it from there (possibly using the guide in the article? I'm guessing the steps would be similar - if not identical - for both Windows 2000 and XP).

I wouldn't do that on 2000 just to be safe.
Better a computer with a trojan then no computer at all, right?

A really weird thing happened to me once. What I did was save a normal text file made in notepad inside a folder called newfolder1 which was inside another folder called newfolder2. The text in the notpad file just had text inside square brackets and when I closed it and looked at it again it said that the file was corrupt and it couldn't be deleted. Then I put newfolder2 contaning the corrupt file inside another folder and newfolder1 and the text file were gone.
