Using music in Scratch projects

I'm planning to make an interactive iPod project but I don't want to use full versions of songs that I've purchased and are copyrighted material.  I'd like to have within the project a limit of say 30 seconds of music, but then people will just download it.  Is it legal for me to post a project with full versions (not the original files I purchased but those converted to Scratch-acceptable formats)?  At the most it would be maybe a dozen songs.

Re: Using music in Scratch projects

Perhaps I could use something like Garageband to amputate just the first 30 seconds of a song and then use that file in the project?

Re: Using music in Scratch projects

Someone had a question similar to this, and cheddargirl replied. I think the post is pretty good...

Hey [user], I'm not a lawyer, but as for the stance on video game music, chances are you could probably use it in a Scratch project and claim the use of music under the doctrine of Fair Use as you are not using it commercially for profit...

That might help.  smile
