Re: iPhone App

As covered on Daring Fireball, Apple have softened the language of the "no interpreters" rule under which Scratch was removed from the App Store. The new clause reads:

Unless otherwise approved by Apple in writing, no interpreted code may be downloaded or used in an Application except for code that is interpreted and run by Apple’s Documented APIs and built-in interpreter(s). Notwithstanding the foregoing, with Apple’s prior written consent, an Application may use embedded interpreted code in a limited way if such use is solely for providing minor features or functionality that are consistent with the intended and advertised purpose of the Application.

Will you be re-submitting the app for evaluation?

A few notes:
1. The Scratch Team  at MIT did not create the app so we cannot provide any kind of support for it.

2. We also do not get anything from the sales of the app.

Dude, I'm isorry but that app got removed from the app store.  sad

Re: iPhone App

Via JSO's twitter, I have recently discovered that the Scratch app has been resubmitted to the app store - JSO retweeted a developer's tweet about it.

There was, but you could only view project, not make them. It was removed because Apple doesn't (or didn't) allow code interpreters on the App store. Since it's removal, Apple has changed the agreement which left a small loophole for Scratch to climb through.

I'm not sure, but I imagine will be about the same as the old app, which was around $5.

That sounds affordable.

If I could afford an iPhone.

Well, if you're looking for a cheap device with iPhone-like capabilities, try the iPod touch - it's what I have  big_smile

I scrimped and saved for like a week to get it. Luckily, I never buy anything.

You're lucky. Even if I saved all my money and allowance, it'd take me about a year and a half to get something like that.

Well, considering iPhones are more expensive here due to importation costs and stuff, it'd take me more than 2 years to save for one  big_smile

It isn't because it's NOT THERE. Apple took it off because the iPhones don't support Java. Only Object Oriented scripts like Objective-C.

Actually, Apple took it off because code interpreters were against their policy. However, it has since been resubmitted because Apple changed their policy  smile

So now that Apple changed their policy, they're resubmitting the app to see if it fits the rules again?
