Somebody probably already explained this, but why was the app removed?
It violated the policy that an app cannot run code.

I don't know if you can, but try making the app an extension of the Safari browser so that you can view projects when you go to a Scratch page! Lol

I am currently posting this message from an android phone emulator, having downloaded the app inventor from google, which is based on Scratch. I have not been able to view projects in the java player, and haven't tried flash yet. Excited about Scratch 2.0 and Android tablets.

Apple is VERY VERY strict on what you can do with coding. Apple also said that they would NEVER make a java or flash player as of now for the iOS until further notice. If you want some way to play Scratch projects in your browser, jailbreak your iDevice, download Frash, and run the Scratch projects in Safari in the flash player.

Hey, Scratch development team --
Marc Feeley has succeeded in getting Gambit Scheme released as an iPhone app, complete with a REPL (Read-Eval-Print-Loop), which is a counterexample to the statement that you can't get a scripting language released on the iPhone (unless the iTunes app store folks were just asleep :-) Look for "Gambit REPL" in the app store.
Can you folks pull the same trick for Scratch?

I think you should either
1) Change the topic to something like "iPhone App (Removed from App Store)"
or
2) Lock this topic

*facepalm* someone needs to close this topic, because there is no app anymore.

Actually, there is still. You just need a jailbroken iDevice and coughinstallulouscough. Or better yet, make a point and click game, get an Android, and play it on there.

I guess...
I've just tried some android tablets and they have the worst touch-screens ever... worse than the ones on HP all-in-ones and worse than the ones on tomtom GPS's

I think it is disgusting that Apple have a clause that says no other interpreters but theirs can be used on the IPAD/IPhone. Using an efficient interpreter is a perfectly legitimate way to program (and I think it may be the best and most flexible).
Here is a quote from Donald Knuth professor Emeritus of the Art of Computer Programming at Stanford University:-
"There is another way to look at a program written in interpretative language. It may be regarded as a series of subroutine calls, one after another. Such a program may in fact be expanded into a long sequence of calls on subroutines, and, conversely, such a sequence can usually be packed into a coded form that is readily interpreted. The advantage of interpretive techniques are the compactness of representation, the machine independence, and the increased diagnostic capability. An interpreter can often be written so that the amount of time spent in interpretation of the code itself and branching to the appropriate routine is negligible"
In effect, Apple are blocking a perfectly sound programming technique that would allow non-programmers to write Apps. Imagine the furore if Microsoft withdrew EXCEL to prevent accountants doing their own statistics ! The analogy is extremely close.

There are alot of apps that shouldn't be in the app store then xD It's quite annoying to see all these innapropriate iPhone apps get in the app store, and this, of all things, gets removed
