I am going to my friends house on the weekend to play some D&D and do some campaigns. My character will be a sorcerer and my brother is going to be either a bard or a rogue.
Any one here know about these kind of traditional Role Playing Games?

Well I have always been interested in them, but I can't really play them. My dad played D&D when we was a kid. I still have his books from back then. They are really old.

Which edition, 3.5 or 4?

Yeah, you won't be able to use those old books anymore. You will need to get the new 4th edition books, but I bet your dad could give you some pointers.

Then it's probably 3.5 (and I also don't think 4.0 has bards), my favorite edition

Ues, I do. You will most likely play using a 20 sided dice for most things. Damage will be based on the level and type of weapon. Some variation of a 1d6 or 1d8 is usually the case.
A campiagn should last more than one trip. My firends and I do it every friday, for about an hour, and it takes a good 3 months to get through a campaign.
Socerers use magic (Duh), and are pretty much ranged attacks, and may have a healing spell.
Bards use their magic to stat boost the rest of the team, but are kind of useless otherwise.
Rogues...I don't know.
There are different rules depending on the version, and the strictness of Q, the game master.
Any specific questions?

Yeah. They are in my closet right now. The only one I remember the name of is called "Fiend Folio".

I've played those. At my friends house, me an my friends go outside and use areas of their backyard as dungeons. Which is epic because they have fake swords, and shields, plus their fence makes the perfect locked door.
I remember being some extremely strong human, me and my friend brother were to strong for any of his monsters, but the dragon was too strong.

For the past few weeks I have been attempting to make my own pen and paper game. But it isn't very complicated like D&D.

Then your dad has edition 3.0 which isn't that old. The Fiend Folio has a ~15 page packet converting it to 3.5, which would allow you to use it in a 3.5 game, which is typically what the "most hardcore" players play (between 3.5 and 4.0)

DnD is not complx if you decide to have house rules. Then its pretty much role dice.
I remeber a giant squid popping out of no where because the GM was angry at one guy. Fun times.

Yeah, I am also surprised how people have experience with DnD! This Christmas I got the edition 1 AD&D books. So crazy! Save matrices and ridiculousness!
