Lately, I've seen an increase in the amount of old threads that are being bumped up. I find it annoying, because I have to post and tell them not to bump of old topics, and mods have to use their time to remove the simplist things, when they could be elaborating on suggestions like this one
My suggestion, is that once a topic gets a certain amount of time old, or basically it hasn't been posted in for a long time (say, a couple of weeks, or a month, a mod could decide), a message would be added to the top of the thread, saying this:
Note: This topic has been unedited for (# of days) days. It is considered archived - the discussion is over. Do not add to unless it really needs a response.
I think this would help a lot, so people don't bump up old topics as much.
Although I'm wondering if this is possible. If it makes it easier, it could just not mention the amount of days, and say "This topic has been unedited for over a month", but still this might be difficult to implement. Because I don't think mods should have to do this manually XD

1 month is too short. Plus it's mainly just 2 users doing it, so if we could get them to stop, about 124% of the necroposting rates would go down.

I have seen those numbers somewhere...
The forum uses PunBB doesn't it? I'm not sure if it's possible. Maybe if you make the date posted bigger, it would stop it. But that might not be possible either.

There is something called "prune". It is possible to do this end topic thing after a month, but I would say 6 weeks, a little more time.

That deletes all old topics, so I doubt it would be used.

That might be a good solution. I really don't like it when users bump year-old topics, but I can see how they might do it accidentally. They could find the topic via the search engine, and forget to look at the date before posting. I don't doubt that I've done that before. That would be a good way to prevent accidental bumps, and maybe discourage purposeful bumpers as well.

Hey, the moderators don't like it when you talk about someone in a bad way, and give the username. Just letting you know.

Lucario, I love your idea! But I think the message should be where the post area is. It won't let you post unless you agree to the message and click OK. Sort of like this:
What do you think?

Not a bad idea.
It's annoying when people bump topics that haven't been posted in for years, especially when they post something like:
<when green flag clicked><forever><play sound[ [/blocks]
People do that all the time, but when they do, they usually bump an old topic to post it in. So this idea might discourage necroposting while also stopping this "block spam".

Hi! Actually, I go on the website and forums every day, and post some each visit.
Haven't seen you in a while, though...

I like this proposal! It would mean less work for the mods and less noise on the forum. I kind of like 2 months for the time limit but I can see it being something less or more by maybe a couple of weeks. I will put in a change request - even if it doesn't get done on this forum, maybe it can be incorporated into whatever forum supports Scratch 2.0.

Thanks!
It was mainly Lucario's idea though...

I said that before Paddle came along and edited it... in the quote, I removed it myself.

What about that guy who just posts on every old topics with some kind of badly written gist of what's going on then says OT: something?

Why did you have to mention that? That's a sort of insult to the person (although weakened).

Yeah and now watch this: In the future, that user will repeat the process because he doesn't know what he's doing. It's not a matter of good and bad, but a matter of understanding. He doesn't understand he's necroposting.

Does that mean... we're changing forums???

Forum? Scratch 2.0?
I'm adding this to my Scratch 2.0 Scrapbook.
Gathering information.
Congrats on the submission, Lucario621!
