Well, long time a A Scratch Survey has been made by me so here it is!
This A Scratch Survey asks the community, what do you think about Scratch?

Should Scratch be strictly programming, art , or simply both?

I hope to see the results.  big_smile

Both, but whatever it is, it has to be good quality.

Find someone post count. Click posts under username. Find number of pages. Times that by 40 for min and 60 for max and you have a rough estimate of post count.

Art inside programming is good too. Sticking an image in the scratch project with no scripting is NOT a project.

Both. I just do not like it when someone uploads something from another website and it does not have any scripts or any editing. It seems like you are not doing any work then.

Re: Art, Programming, Both? A Scratch Survey :D

Both. If it doesn't have programming, I don't consider it exactly a "Project".

Just my opinion.

But I know scratch is more for programming.

Re: Art, Programming, Both? A Scratch Survey :D

There needs to be more choices.

Add these four choices:

"Mostly programming, very little art"
"Generally equal, but a bit more programming"
"Generally equal, but a bit more art"
"Mostly art, very little programming"

If you do so, put me in Generally equal, but a bit more programming.

Re: Art, Programming, Both? A Scratch Survey :D

Scratch was intended mainly for programming, so I say programming.

That being said, if you make an animation that has some actual effort put into it, that's fine too, but if you just make still images, you should upload them to an art website, not scratch.

I'm taking a break from Scratch until 2.0 comes out. Any messages sent between then and now probably won't be read - sorry.

Re: Art, Programming, Both? A Scratch Survey :D

Obviously projects should have both art and programming, unless people start loving command prompts or something. In my view scratch is better suited to programming. It was promoted as a programming tool and its art abilities are pretty sub par.

Hi, I am Archmage coder extraordinaire. I do Scratch, pascal, java, php, html, AS2 and AS3. Leave me a message if you want coding advice. Also check out my personal website, lots of good stuff about web development, Flash, and Scratch (v1 and v2) !
