Invention Contest

Are you full of ideas, but forget them easily? (Like me!)

Then this contest is perfect for you. Think up an invention, and program it in scratch. Draw a blueprint too, and you will get an extra 5 points in every category below. If you want even MORE extra credit, create a ad for your invention.

Categories judged on:

.:Environmental Impact:.
Does it leave a big carbon footprint? Or will it use a whole lot of oil? If it doesn't, tell us how (maybe you could write little notes at the sides)

.:Creativity:.
How creative were you? Did you steal an idea from another inventor? I hope not.

.:Everyday Need:.
Would consumers use this regularly? Is the invention really needed for everyday life?

.:Graphics:.
Why should consumers want this invention if it looks ugly in their home? Make it pretty.

.:Practicality:.
Do you really think that this invention could happen someday?

Participants
-ScratchX
-Ace-of-Spades (maybe, possibly, alittle)
-Brass45
-fanofcena (I think...)
-
-

Judges
-Dazachi
-BWOG
-Vista(numbers that I will find later)
-poopo
-

All entries should be in before March 6. (JUdges don't judge the projects until this time, because there might be new participants and judges.)
(2 days before I go on vacation!)

Also, remix this and put in this gallery.

Have, future inventors! (prizes will be announced later)

Re: Invention Contest

My idea: A laser beam that can scratch my butt from space. I'll need 3 million dollars plus goverment clearance to modify a sattelite, and also a highly trained space crew. Anyone volunteer to get me the funds?

Re: Invention Contest

Here's my idea(note:nanobots are a common item in science and science fiction, and have been featured in recent films such as G.I. Joe):
A multi-use nanobot controlled by either a neuron-sensitive head sensor or a tablet of pre-made tasks. This nanobot would have three arms for manipulating atoms, grasping them like how you would hold a marble. It would power itself by stripping atoms of their electrons through carbon nanotube extensions on it's side, and it would propel itself through a substance by intaking atoms and ejecting them electromagnetically. It would be only 500 nanometers long and 100 nanometers thick, and it would be in the shape of a cylinder. The nanobot would have a radio range of 1000 feet.It would manipulate atoms and rearrange them to create copies of themselves,or change one molecule into another of a different shape and size. This would allow the nanobots to do a variety of helpful tasks, like clearing out rubble and oil spills, and the nanbots could,in theory, allow someone to greatly increase their life by having the nanobots constantly replacing parts of the body. For this reason,it would also allow homes and buildings to be kept in shape, and it could allow for replicating machines to make anything at the push of a button.Unfortunatly, the nanobots also have military and terrorist uses, being able to eat away the whole world in an appocalypse scenario called "gray goo".

Basically,an electrode implanted in some sort of container(like a headband, for example) would track the area of the brain responsible for image recognition, sensing the intensity of the electricity pulse, and it would use those pulses to set a pixels color and form an imag.It would then compare the image into a constantly updated list of visual actions compiled by researchers and perform the action with the most pixel patterns similar to the image tha the electrode decoded. It would then send the information to the nanobot.

Actually, quite the opposite. In this months "Popular Science" magazine, they actually had an article on scientists who could match the brain wave pulse with an image, and even make crude, blurry, but still usable photos by scanning the brain with an MRI machine.I'll go hunt for a link. The main obstacle would be getting components that small, considering it takes scientists an hour to arrange ten atoms. However, nanotechnology is  slow but steady science,so even though nanobots might not exist in my lifetime,we can expect prototypes to come out in 1-3 centuries.

*Update*:I found the link to the article. http://www.popsci.com/science/article/2010-01/mind-readers

You do realize that if an atom was a quarter, the next closet atom would be about 400 yards away, right? Just, proportionally. Unfortunatly, that will never work.

Well, I am building a tank with a friends. 4ftx2ft, with a chainsaw motor connected to the transpoder using a soliniod to give it throttle, and a separate, detachable turret with tennis ball launching capabilities.

Total cost estimates: 300-400$

Yes,i've been to enough science demonstrations(2) to know that the space between an atom and an electron is very large. However, let me ask you this:if that's true, then HOW do molecules form?

Isn't it that atoms of roughly similar electromagnitism attract each other(if not, then blame wikipedia).By the way, remind samurai to add me to the participants list.
