When you turn fill screen off and click on the white space, you can make a new morph? What are these morphs supposed to be for, testing code? They respond to green flag and stop all buttons, but don't count as sprites.
And then there's the tetris. But we all know about that.
Sorry if there's another thread like this, I haven't seen it.

Its something to do with names i think, sometimes if you save a massive file, the names will go to Stringmorph-something, then back to normal. its pretty strange, but im not sure if its important.

No, that's not what I mean.
I mean the random tiny programs that you get by following these steps:
1. Open scratch
2. Shift+click on the "R" in scratch
3. Select "turn fill screen off"
4. Click on the white area from turning the fill screen off
5. Select "newmorph"
6. Pick something

i came across morphs when i got mesh i think they are examples as you can press the open(on the white bit)then there is an option with 'morph' in it and if you click on it a text box(like the browser bit)appears and i think you can program on in to scratch

i have no idea then...

OK, a morph is squeak's name for a sprite. Everything in squeak is a morph. Blocks, sprites, strings, and even the whole scratch IDE is a morph. To use scratch, you don't need to understand them... however, you do for squeak. I can elaborate further on what they are if anyone is interested.

Squeak is a programming language based in Smalltalk, Scratch was written in this language. Here's some more info: http://www.squeak.org/About/

Actually, Squeak is one of Smalltalk virtual machines (yes, it's kinda like java. the syntax is just more gibberish).

I'm looking at them, and one that is VERY handy is under Demo, FrameRateMorph. This way you can see the framerate of your project
