The Fourth Dimiension

NASA wrote:

If a light is shone on a three dimensional object, a two-dimensional shadow is cast. By dimensional analogy, light shone on a two-dimensional object in a two-dimensional world would cast a one-dimensional shadow, and light on a one-dimensional object in a one-dimensional world would cast a zero-dimensional shadow, that is, a point of non-light. Going the other way, one may infer that light shone on a four-dimensional object in a four-dimensional world would cast a three-dimensional shadow.

What could cast a 3D shadow? Discuss.

Re: The Fourth Dimiension

Well, the fourth dimension is technically all of the points between an object and where the object will be, basically in time.  So you need the object, where it will be, and light reflecting off all of those points, and that might make 3D or something.  I don't really know.

What makes you say a 3d object casts a 2d shadow? If the shadow is on a step of a staircase for example, that shadow is 3D along the entire sides of the staircase.

The 4th dimension is time travelling. If you think you understand this stuff, you're wrong.

It's just that a shadow can't be 3D or it's not a shadow

Isn't the fouth dimention have to do with time? You can't shine a light on time.

Textures are always 2D. Even if it is "bent" in 3D space, a texture is always perfectly flat. It is only applied to a 3D form, but It remains as a 2D texture.

Shadows are always flat. A 4D/3D shadow would take the form of a "cube" for example.

No, it is EVERY point between where an object is and where it will be.  Lot's of points to shine a light on...

No, the 4th dimension is time. Not time traveling, not every point or anything, but just time.

It is the duration of space. Correct, but there is still much more to it than that.

No, the 4th dimension is time.

Time.  i.e. the motion of all objects.  i.e.  every point an object passes through to get to where it will be, i.e.  what I said.

So, basically I said time, just in a smart way  tongue
