The Option To Close Your Own Topic.

Frequently when the topic is already resolved we want to close our topic and not delete it so it could stay. Also we have to keep on asking moderators to close our topics.
If its possible, can the Scratch Team make a close button FOR CREATORS of topics. Like when you click edit it will give you the option to close the topic.

I don't know... closing threads is a moderator privelege.  hmm

It get annoying to keep on begging or nagging moderators to close a topic and if you can delete your OWN topic why can't you be allowed to close it?

Re: The Option To Close Your Own Topic.

You can simply report your topic asking for it to be closed. They close it with a post like "Closed at topic owner's request".

It's a nice idea, but it's a sort of moderator thing to close topics... if you know what I mean.

Yeah, its know as a moderator thing but it would be nice to be able to close our own topics.

I haven't seen a thread closed on request in a while, though.  tongue

As for your second question, maybe because it's a moderator privelege.  tongue

Well, supposing people had that ability, a user could make a controversial thread, get shouted at, sneakily edit the topic post, and close the thread before anyone could point that out.  hmm

But it'd be interesting to have the ability.  smile

Re: The Option To Close Your Own Topic.

Can't you do that by simply hitting the delete button on the first post of a topic?

EDIT: yes you can.

They mean "closing" as in keeping the topic accessible on the forums, but not letting you post in it.

I'm taking a break from Scratch until 2.0 comes out. Any messages sent between then and now probably won't be read - sorry.

I agree, unlike some people. And you should be able to rename topics.

Re: The Option To Close Your Own Topic.

I THINK you should be able to request it...

you could fill out a form, and a mod could approve.  wink

I'm not quite sure if we really need am official form for that: you can use the report link and request to have the topic moved.  wink

Actually, I wouldn't mind if this was possible.

As for the issue about assigning 'close topic' privileges to regular forum users:
Is it even possible in a FluxBB forum to implement such a privilege to normal users? From my understanding, it is usually, by default, a moderator and administrator privilege, and something that is otherwise, well, impossible to give to normal users, even if it was desired. But do correct me if I'm wrong, as I am not an expert on FluxBB.  tongue

As for the suggestion itself (if it is possible) I'm rather on the fence about that. There are some pros with being able to close your own topic, which include:
1) Preventing users from necroposting or making off-topic comments on old topic that are already resolved. I think this needs no explanation.  tongue
2) Greater control of a topic. This is typically for request threads. The option to close (and then perhaps re-open) your topic helps to give some sense of control: if you are fulfilling requests, you can lock it when your client list is full; if you're asking for a request, you can close it when the request is fulfilled.
3) There is no need to wait on moderators to close threads. And for us moderators, we get the benefit of getting more time to reply to other reports that need more close attention.  big_smile

At the same time, however, I am a bit wary to giving this power as it can otherwise be abused. One such example could be if a troll or excessive spammer comes along, posts rather useless and flaming topics, and then closes them, leaving an insane trail of closed topics that need to be removed from the forums. Here we have the negativity of having unnecessary forum clutter and more moderator work needed to help maintain the forums. While older users usually aren't spammy and have more or less a better sense of what is worth closing and what is not, keep in mind that there are significant amount of younger forum users who may otherwise not know any better.
