08jackt - Have you been having the problem consistently since November - as in you haven't been able to share a project since then? Or does it just happen once in a while?

Ok everyone - let's try to figure out what causes this glitch so we can reproduce it on one of our computers (that's the first step to fixing anything).
Before posting, see if any of the solutions here work for you:
http://info.scratch.mit.edu/Support/Scratch_FAQ#Sharing
If not, please post here in as much detail as you can:
1. Your computer's operating system (i.e. Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Mac, etc.)
2. The version of Scratch you are using (Help > About Scratch)
3. The name and version of your anti-virus software, if you have any.
4. Any details you can give us about when you receive the failed: unknown reason error, like time of day, sharing from school or home.
5. What country you are sharing from.
This is a tricky bug to catch, because it only affects some Scratchers some of the time. So the challenge will be to get enough data so that we can figure out what is causing it, and then come up with a solution!
Oh, and by the way - here's a link to a cool project we made about reporting bugs:

I sent the email with my OS and Antivirus,, but I will repost it.
1. Windows Vista
2. McAfee
3. I have tried it from around 10 to 8 eastern. None of them have worked.
4. Yes. I added about three things ths morning to the prject and then could not upload it. Before, (about three months ago was when I last tested it online.) I could upload it. I added music this morning, but it still didn't work when I deleted that. I added some scripts and pictures too, but when I deleted that sprite, it didn't work.

it only happens with projects with more than about 3 sprites.

4. Yes
Can you try disabling your firewall / anti-virus software and then try sharing the project? In the past we've encountered problems caused by over-zealous anti-virus software cutting off the connection to the website before the project has been completely shared.
Also to confirm - you are on Scratch 1.4, right? (stupid question, I know, but it pays to ask sometimes).
What exactly happens before you get the error? Does the uploading progress bar reach the end? Does it say "waiting for response?"
Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this....

i've tried turning off all my security programs, and firewall, but it still doesn't work.
and the loading bar does reach the end, but it always says "Failed: Unknown Reason."

Hmmm... ok. I'm not sure if this is possible, but it would be helpful if you could try sharing your project from another location - to rule out some kind of issue with your network or internet service provider's configuration. Can you take your project to the library or a friend's house, and try to share it from there?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by this, can you elaborate?

Awesome - I'm running Ubuntu right now!
It would be really interesting to know if you can successfully share the same project when running Scratch on Ubuntu. If you have Ubuntu installed or can boot from a live CD, there are instructions for installing the Scratch for Linux package here:
http://info.scratch.mit.edu/Linux_installer
No worries if this isn't practical, but if it it would be great to find this out.

1. Windows 7
2. 1.4
3. The new free Windows Security Software (I think it is called Action Center)
4.
a. This is interesting. I have better success sending my project at times not many people are uploading projects (late at night, school time, etc.) than at typical times of day (Weekends, afternoons, etc.)
b. This glitch has been occuring for me continuously (I haven't been able to upload a single project) since late December.
c. INTERESTING FACT: I have NO trouble whatsoever uploading my project on another computer of mine that has Windows XP. This computer has NO antivirus software (Norton is expired)
d. Although the bug occured when I had Windows Vista, it only happened occasionally, while with Windows 7 it happens continuously.
I realize I just added more confusion than before, but all those facts are COMPLETELY true.
5. I am sharing from the United States.

im using Windows XP 2003. Would that make it harder for my computer to upload projects, or the fact that bigpond security turned my Javascript off?
It shouldn't matter that javascript is turned off when it comes to sharing projects. It's possible your security software changed some security setting that is messing Scratch up. You might try uninstalling it in add remove programs, if you haven't already.
