I have this huge encyclopedia of logic puzzles, so I'll show them to you. Post answer.
The Voyage of Singood the Sailor
P1-1 The Giant Fish
Singood decided to be a sailor and signed on to a merchant ship. After a few weeks, the ship was caught in a storm and blown off course. The crew spotted a strange island soon after. But the island was really a giant fish that Singood's father, Singbad, had encountered. It gave the appearance of an island to swallow unsuspecting ships whole. Singood and his fellow crew members tried to row ashore, and upon discovering what it was, they sought to swim back to their ship and escape.
From the statements below, what was the outcome of the encounter and when was it?
1. If the giant fish had just eaten several whales and sailing ships and was not hungry, then it was evening.
2. If it was morning, the ship and its crew were too small to be seen by the giant fish.
3. If it was evening, then the monster was too old and slow to catch the ship.
4. If the fish was too old and slow to catch the crew and ship, then it was morning.

Special secret option 5!
They all got eaten in the afternoon.

It was morning, the fish did not see them. I think.
Guys, numbers aren't answers. They are clues. They are all true.

Guys, numbers aren't answers.
But they represent answers

lol I searched the puzzle on Google and it gave me a one star review for a logic puzzle book on Amazon saying that the puzzle doesn't make sense.
Lol - that's pretty much a perfect description of it.

If the father had encountered it, that means it's old. Since answers #2 and #3 ask for the time of day, they cannot be the answer. Since answer #1 says that the monster had been eating sailing ships, it most likely isn't the answer, because this 'island' is far from a normal ship's course. Also, every single option with the idea of Singhood getting eaten is probably incorrect, since the book is called 'The Voyage of Singhood the Sailor Part 1'. That leaves #4, where the fish is too old, and they escape, being the best answer.

No they don't. EVERY statement is true, you have to devise the answer from all of them.

Oh that makes sense. It's morning and evening and the monster ate them all and let them go.

They're all If statements, not facts.

It's 42 duh.

I've been using cheap logic for this, but here's the probable right answer:
Let's say that the giant fish had been eating whales and ships and he's not hungry.
"If the giant fish had just eaten several whales and sailing ships and was not hungry, then it was evening."
It is now evening. "If it was evening, then the monster was too old and slow to catch the ship."
The fish is now too old to catch the crew, and ship.
"If the fish was too old and slow to catch the crew and ship, then it was morning."
It is now the morning.
"If it was morning, the ship and its crew were too small to be seen by the giant fish."
The answer is this logic puzzle is stupid.

That gave me the idea to link the statements together. The real answer is that the crew escaped, but it turned from evening to morning in the process. The fish wasn't even chasing them though, because it didn't see them. Also it was full already, and it was too old to bother with these types of things.
Now someone post another puzzle.

So let me get this straight.... the answer wasn't number 4?

Actually, it is.

It was midnight. because that is morning and evening. As stated in # 3 and 4, "If it morning, he was too old and slow to catch the ship and his crew. If he was too old and slow to catch the ship and his crew, it was evening." That could only mean that it is midnight, when it is both morning and night. The ship and his crew got away.
