Shift-click "r" in the Scratch logo. Select "turn error catching off". Then, do something with 0 divided by 0. Click the green flag. YOU GET A SQUEAK ERROR!!!
Here's a screenshot:

Which Scratch "logo"? I tried pressing shift, r, and clicking on everything related to the Scratch logo and mascot, but nothing happened.

And hold the Shift, obviously!

Oh, I get it know. I thought it was shift, click, while pressing the r key. That's cool! I wonder what other secrets the Scratch team is hiding . . .

Rats. But I think if you do something with the error message, you can...wel...change Scratch.

Bringing up the error isn't hacking, but it's how you start it off. Once you see the error, press the "debug" button. There's something else you can do there to bring up the browser menu which lets you change almost everything.
Although it's a lot more convenient to select "turn fill screen off" from that menu, and clicking on the white space. Then you can just go to Open > browser to bring it up.

That is cool, but it isn't a hack. I consider it more of a little easter-egg.

Sorry for triple-posting, but I suggest to turn error catching back on once you're done! It could mess you up in making somthing big, who knows?

When I'm in 1.4, error catching is normally turned off.

What's error catching?

This is what's known as a backdoor.
These are intentionally programmed into software in order to help the developers modify it later.
These options are actually part of the shift+extras menu in 1.0.
I wouldn't count on this being available in 1.5, though, since it is now too publicised. The point of back doors are that they let the developers at the code, but remain unknown to the casual user.

No no no...
Not all casual users unknow it, because I know it as an casual user.
Anway, here are stuff SD (Scratch Developers) should change:
2. Count it!
3. No no no... see the top comment (upper than 1).
Done. There is no 1 because it is OK.

Actually, if you bring up that menu again, then click on the "Fill screen off" button, a white space will appear at the bottom and side. Click on it, and it will give you a menu for the Scratch World. You will also be able to get a squeak halo for anything by right clicking on them.
