How bad have you messed up

I messed up a few a long time ago by misplacing code in archmages project when I downloaded it and he had to help me. :p that project is now called what not to do and after i fixed the glitch I made a new project called what to do. If you have messed up worst than that tell me about it. And I someone will rpobably help you
                                                Not me

When I started this it wasn't to show mistakes and to prevent them  it was kinda an ego booster so I knew I wasn't the worst scratcher out there...

                                 I'm not

But just to let you know if your biggest mess up was deleting a variable, your not alone.

OHhhh glowing green

Oh I like your idea of telling what mistakes people have made when building stuff with Scratch. Share your misunderstandings! :-)

Re: How bad have you messed up

I spent two hours trying to figure out why a variable seemed to be changing between two places in the code.  It turns out I had accidentally defined two variables, one named with one space between two words and another named with two spaces between the same two words!  Did I ever feel stupid!

Re: How bad have you messed up

NobodyKnowsNorune:I have tons of mistakes! Everytime you find a problem on the website that is probably my fault. As for Scratch, there were tons of things I didn't get . For example once I couldn't figure out how to make something swing, but then I asked someone and they told me  smile

Re: How bad have you messed up

Ah! Mistakes! The thing that tracks me each time I start a serious project! I have loads of 'em. One time I accidentaly deleted one variable instead of another, and wondered why the project didn't work! lol  smile

Re: How bad have you messed up

When I first started with scratch, I couldn't tell the difference in color between the "all-sprites" variables and the "this sprite only" variables.  When I tried deleting a "this-sprite-only" variable and replacing it with an "all-sprites" variable with the same name, I had a lot of references still to the variable that no longer existed.

Eventually I had to throw that project away and start over from the beginning.
(I still think that there ought to be a way to rename a variable or to change it from all-sprites to this-sprite-only.)

Re: How bad have you messed up

Once I made a game that was mixed up so that doing what you were supposed to do lowered your health, and getting hit by the enemies gave you score. It sucked...

Re: How bad have you messed up

I wanted a menu to close, but when you clicked close, it broadcasted the message again (accidentally), so it kept broadcasting it over and over and I spent over an hour trying to figure out why it seemed to freeze when I clicked it...  hmm

I'm taking a break from Scratch until 2.0 comes out. Any messages sent between then and now probably won't be read - sorry.

Re: How bad have you messed up

I do not think anyone can beat this one.  I was just putting the finishing touches I had worked on for two weeks!  When I was deleating a variable, I deleated the most important one when I was ment to delete one I did not use, and my whol project was destroyed, I had to restart the entire project again, but I was never able to finish it.  sad

Re: How bad have you messed up

We often have the same problem Kevin mentioned with variables -- i.e., telling the difference between local and global variables. Rounding out our top three mistakes: broadcasting without waiting, and race conditions (where the behavior of the sprite is unintentionally dependent upon which script finishes first, or where two scripts are trying to access the same variable at about the same time).

If that ever happens, just copy one of the blocks of that variable, deleat it, than hit undo. The variable should return. Try that next time.

Re: How bad have you messed up

my biggest mistake happened when i was making my 4dimensional game. I was hoping i would upload it, but I had put in so much detail into the multileveled backgrounds of the game that it took too much space, I got really frustrated and deleted the project! NOOOOOOOO!!!!

Im guessing you've either been on scratch a while or you use it in you're school.
