Dear everyone,
I have read a paper on the development of Scratch-based Augmented reality by Iulian Radu and B. McIntyre at http://www.augmentedenvironments.org/lab/2009/06/03/augmented-reality-scratch-a-childrens-authoring-environment-for-augmented-reality-experiences/ . The idea was really a brilliant idea and will dramatically change the interaction between the child and the programs created by Scratch.
As expected by the creator of the AR-Scratch, they predict that the new version of Scratch with Augmented reality facility will soon be introduced. In that paper, some interesting features of the AR-Scratch been able to run well. But I do not know, where is the beta version of the AR-Scratch available? And can I become a beta tester for the program?
Currently I have tried making a simple program based on ARToolkit. But ARToolkit is not a friendly programming language for children.
Thank you very much.

I don't have the program. The author of AR-Scratch only said that they will integrate these capabilities into the next Scratch version soon. But I do not know why there is no news from the official site about the planned development of this important features.
I can only say that the augmented reality features are much more important and more attractive when compared with the Lego Wedo and Picoboard!
So, anyone who knows more information about this, please share with this forum.

If you like to read, you'd know in 3 seconds.
Anyway, it is Augmented Reality.

Wow.... I saw a video of this AR thing and it was really cool!
Can you post a link to the video? Because I didn't see any links to it, and when I searched it on youtube I got nothing.

With Augmented Reality, our webcam will not just for making photo for sprites again! It will be transformed into a powerful medium that let Scratch program connecting their sprites with real world situation in unlimited ways.
Actually, right now there are many flash-like augmented reality software which are ready to use. But if AR-Scratch can do the same way, AR application would become a new standard in the game development.

Not just tracking finger, but you can imagine everything about nintendo wii interactive games developed by Scratch. We can project Scratch screen on the wall and then the programs detect "our racket" to play virtual tennis, and many kind of AR games! We don't have to use infrared detector because our webcam will do that job.
