a international contest for children using Scratch

i am a French teacher in France with pupils 10-11 year old. I am also the head master of this school.
I want to organize a international contest for the kids using Scratch using the new technology
(Excuse me for my English).
We can do the rules all together.  I have some ideas.
Example : one school sent a maze to all the other partner and they have  to create a robot able to cross the Labyrinth without touch the wall.
This is one of the idea.
If you are interressing send me  an email: c.oustalet@laposte.net
This challenge can be made by only two school at the beginning.

Re: a international contest for children using Scratch

Good idea!

I think contest should be how long it takes to transverse maze.

Non-school person (Adjudicator) should design maze.

They publish it.

We have 1 or 2 weeks to try to get through maze quickly in each school.

At end of 2 weeks, each school submit best robot from best pupil(s) via email to adjudicator.

All best school entries published on Scratch galleries and we see which one wins.

regards

Simon

My Tech Club kids (mostly 10-11 years old) might be interested in this challenge also, though maze-running may be too difficult for them, as they have mainly been working on animations, not algorithms.

Re: a international contest for children using Scratch

That´s a good idea with at contest. At this time I haven´t introduced Scratch to younger pupils/kids. But I like the idea with a task to solve. A little bit like Lego Legue, but moore simple. Would be nice with an international contest, with a international judgeteam. Best solution, best layout, and other categories...

Re: a international contest for children using Scratch

If any educators with 10-11 year old pupils would like to take part in a simple contest to get across a maze please post here.

Could anyone with language skills can act as a translator and re-post the question in other languages please.

regards

Simon

Re: a international contest for children using Scratch

None in my school ever heard about Scratch nor speak English well enough to be able to use it. English lessons are useless. When I try to tell them about Scratch they just shrug and go away.
What a pity.  sad

Re: a international contest for children using Scratch

I learned English living for five years in America when I was young. My amasing uncle found Scratch on Google. He knows I like these kind of exciting stuff. ^^
