I liked it better back in Late '07- Early '08, when it was more of a website for creating and sharing games and animations, rather than the social networking site that it has turned into.

I agree.... Scratch was a lot more concentrated on the programming in '07. But I'm afraid I don't upload as many projects either, unless you count the simple "filler" stuff.
I mostly hang around the forums now.

I wasn't a member on Scratch in 2007, but I kind of agree with you, in the early 2008 it was more focused on the programming.
But I also think that Scratch is what you make it to, if you really like programming you program.
Before I saw that you posted a lot in the WOTF topic, and now you are saying that it has turned into a social network, so you are also one of the responsible persons; So am I; everyone is.
As I stated above, Scratch is what you make it to.
If you love programming and don't like the social networking, just program and have fun!
Don't complain about how it has become a social network.

I liked it when i visited it in late 09 and early 09 before becoming a member. it has turned into a "poor me" and animation site. by poor me i mean some people are posting projects that are all about them and want people to feel sorry for them eventhough sometimes these things are stupid. it has became more a social networking site in the last few months an is gona be a disaster if it keeps goin this way! I also think therese too many animations and it was supposed to be about games not animations.
therese not many people left that make games. not animations:(

I definately agree.
2007: 10/10
most of 2008: 9.5/10
late 2009: 5/10
I wasn't around for late 2008 and most of 2009, but in 2007 everyone was really nice and it was such a small community, and I felt like I knew most of the people. Now it's just... Different. All of the "legendary" scratchers have pretty much left, and I just don't feel as much like I'm a part of something special.

Honestly I'm starting to get bored on here, with the whole front page debacle and how some parts of the forums are practically a chatroom nowadays.

Late '08, soon after I joined: Doody arrives and starts the dumb ham(p)ster fad. She becomes infamous because all of her projects with little effort poured inside always made it to front page.
Early '09: MaskedStar makes "Anthros Unite RPG". Thousands dead, millions of dollars in damage.

I wish I came to scratch earlier! Either way scratch evolves to the people who are part of it. Nothing can be really changed. After you really think about it, I think that we should be thankful for scratch. I know I am.

Seconded!
I was around when Perfect Sprite Movement was new... Scratch has really downgraded. The forums haven't gotten worse, though.

7/10 because of the program's limitations, but what can you expect - it's drag'n'drop. XD Also, as people mentioned a zillion times, because of the community and because nothing really good gets to front page.
