Getting on to your question, I know that you have to have variables. For example, if something turns green, what else will happen? What if the something does not turn green?

If you're new to using scratch, you should start experimenting first, see what each block does, after you're familiar with each block, and know how to use them (you can also look for tutorials on the forums, for help).
Then the next step would be to come up with an idea for your game (is it going to be a scroller, a platformer, do you have to build something), and then make that idea
