Scratch has evolved since it came out, in 07, it was full of simple games. In 08 it was full of everyone trying to make extremely awesome games like porting mario or sonic, in late 2008 doody owned scratch, in early 09 people started making games again, and in late 2009 nikkiperson2 as well as dreamcaster and maki-tack owned scratch.
I have noticed people have been becoming way to powerful on scratch. Nikkiperson2 dreamcaster and maki-tak have been recieving fan art! FAN ART! I saw this project called bob and dave and at the end of the project dreamcaster said: "bob and dave love fan art" He's just trying to get people to make him fan art! I know I've questioned the point of scratch before and was stoned but one person having enough power to make the whole community make fan art is not the scratch way. People have also had usernames like doodylover123 or dreamcasterfan11 or nikkiperson3. Scratch is property of MIT and no bored kid like dreamcaster should try to become king. It's a community where we work together, not a religion where we worship a user for making a picture of a warrior cat with music in the backround. Who agrees?

To be honest, I don't think that these people are trying to control the Scratch community, people just like their projects, and want to commemorate them. Yes, I agree that oftentimes people with really good projects don't make front page because of art by Maki-Tak, nikkiperson2, etc., but you can't blame them for having fans of their work.

Creepy part: apparently the 3 of them are related.

1. Sorry midnight leapord, this forum is for asking Scratch prgramming questions. A thread like this belongs in Inspiration and More.
2.They aren't controling Scratch, midnightleapord. All they are doing is making quality projects that people like. People make fan arts because they like the characters. The Scratch way is imagine, program, share. That is exactly what they are doing; imagining stuff, programming them, then sharing for the community to see and enjoy.

Its only the fault of the designers of this website. They can easily solve the problems by only letting a user get front page a month after their previous front page project.

I agree. I also don't think that 5 second long animations should be on the front page all the time. Maybe a section for animation, games, stories?

True true... How come when I upload a new project, it doesn't show in the Newest Projects...
Because there are thousands of people downloading projects everyday, and only three slots in newest.

In spite of all the Disney movies and parents bedtime fairy tales, this world is simply not a "fair" place. I'm speaking in general and not voicing an opinion about the people you mentioned specifically btw. At any rate, you can either let this get you down and hold you back or else you can accept it and move on. Wanna know why soooo many judges, politicians, company CEOs, etc are crooked, dishonest people? Cause that is where the money is! Kind of like all those people who hack and dupe their way to the 'elite' status in some game. As for anyone getting the greatest amount of attention at Scratch, if its not those people then it will just be someone else. Besides, just exactly what are they accomplishing? Boosting their egos? Whoop-te-do. I have a deviantArt account. They use counters on everyones' pages to display how many people come to your page (supposedly to look at your art.) This would imply that the higher the number, the better your artwork. In reality, you can generate vast numbers of visitors through socializing means regardless of your artistic endeavors. Now, you could get mad about this and boycott the site but then you are only playing their game. Again, go back to YOUR reason for being at the site in the first place.
Lastly, if these people are related, that smacks of some similar "socializing" type method for garnering attention that one of them 'discovered' and passed on to the others. Of course I could be wrong but I don't care enough to find out. You could just give up and join their race by prostituting yourself to anyone who will listen but at the end of the day, what does that make you? Don't let them bring you down brother! Think of the tons of people churning out interesting, quality projects that get overlooked and/or ignored. I see them every day in the "Show and Tell" forums, often with no responses at all. A far bigger 'crime' imho.

I half agree, and half don't. I believe that they arn't trying to take over scratch at all.
But yes i do beleive That scratch users kind of worship the famous ones. Also i noticed when somebody makes something amazing, some [word edited out by moderator] warrior cat picture for some [word censored by moderator] rpg is taken over, and the amazing project is never found.

Maybe this is not quality in your opinion, but many people love the art. I think that fan art is ok to have on the website. I don't like all the popularity, don't get me wrong. But if people want to express their creativity this way, there is nothing we can do but admire it!

To me this looks like a thread that may start a flame war. Let's put it this way, this is an topic that be successively debated if everyone is cooperative, and is respectful to each other. If you follow these guidelines this thread will be successful.

1. Me and Dream-Caster and Maki-Tak are NOT related. It was a joke that Dream-Caster thought would be funny, but now me and DC are no longer on speaking terms.
2. It's not our fault. people view our projects because they like them. if it were up to me, I would take my projects off the front page; I don't like fame. it isn't fun. at all.
3. I'm sorry that you feel that way; I can't say anything for anyone else, but I'm not trying to 'rule scratch' or anything like that. I just like to animate. Sorry.

this was debated before, i created a forum post which illusionist based a project off of and his project got front page, nothing really changed though...

Hmm... what bothers me is that sometimes people are fine until they get upset, possibly of jealousy. I'm not blaming anyone, but sometimes we all get upset simply because we want the front page also. It can only hold a certain amount of projects, and it's mainly a competition on who gets on. To win, you need a lot of friends and projects to dominate... and it's not exactly the point of the front page.
But if you're upset, just keep on trying.

I understand...sort of. I always thought that you guys liked being popular. I really thout you and Maki-Tak were related! I have nothing against the three of you, though. You are all very knowledged scratchers, and I have to admit, the three of you made some really hilarious projects! I know it isn't your fault though. Keep showing us funny projects please!!!

I do not agree with the "owning" Scratch. Only MIT does. Nobody "worships" me either. We are not trying to dominate the website, and it is not our fault our projects get on top viewed. I like to keep a good balance of good projects and the bad, and try to get the bad off the home page. I do not ask for fan art, but I am flattered every time I get one.
I believe the community still stays strong. I see collab accounts, game-making clubs and projects that have been worked on hard. Did you see that Scratch Chat engine? It got on front page.
Scratch is not a religion, or course I agree. We have not forgotten the true purpose of it- imagine, program, share.
We should all have freedom to make projects, no matter if you're popular or not. That's your choice.

(And yes, the whole related thing was a joke. I am not related in any way to
Dream-Caster or Nikkiperson2.)

Right! I'll start a word file, write a formal document (let's call it the Constutition... that taken already?) and share it!
We all are equal....... la la la la.

Let's put it like this:
How do projects get on the front page? Because people like them. Think about Top Viewed and Loved. Projects get on there because people view them (because they're interested) or because they love them (that cuts straight to the point).
How do celebrities get famous? Because people like them. It's as simple as that. Because people like their projects, they view them and love it them - and then the project gets front paged! It makes perfect sense.
You can narrow it down to People liking the projects. Don't complain about it. It's perfectly fair. Sure, some people make good projects and are unnoticed while some make bad projects and are noticed, but that's just chance and you can't prevent it (the curator system exists because of this). But it's fair.
