Nyap virtual machines take a lot of resources while wine just emulates windows

....and the Scratch Linux package doesn't need to emulate anything - it just works (mostly)
While Wine and Virtualbox are good solutions for some Scratchers, they might not be practical for others. We want to make it as easy as possible for people to install Scratch on Linux. We hope that in the not-too-distant future, Ubuntu users will only have to select Scratch in their package manager to have it installed.
The Scratch package is now officially in beta. We would really appreciate your help testing it out. The more Scratchers use it, the more likely we are to find and fix bugs in the package in order to make it better.
Here's a page with instructions on how to install Scratch for Linux:

See the 'Known Issues' for a list of problems. You can report bugs on this thread:

Using a VirtualBox machine with Windows is the best way to run it. But it takes up space and resources as someone else posted. Try Lightnin's idea, use the Scratch Linux package.

Hmm...haven't seen that error before. The Scratch package for Ubuntu linked above should work on a Debian system - have you tried it?
yes, but it carries many errors for conflicts on libraries;
i use debian 5.0 and it appears to be not easy to be installed via dpkg -i
