Scratch IMAGE files

I collect Scratch IMAGE files so I can look at old versions of Scratch.
I have all the versions except 1.0 & 1.0.2!
You can download them here if you like: http://www2.legoless.com/assets/images/ … images.zip
(Dont worry, thats my site. It can be trusted.)
If you have any questions or have an IMAGE file youve made yourself (if you know smaltalk  yikes ) or if you have 1.0.2 or 1.0 then just post!   smile
Help appreciated.
If you download the IMAGE files from the link above, please please read the 'read me'.
Every time theres a new version of Scratch out, the link above will be updated.
I love collecting Scratch IMAGE files, & I hope others do too!  smile

Re: Scratch IMAGE files

Cool! However, please, everyone, be advised that trying to experiment with old image versions of Scratch is not recommended for the average Scratch user. Try this only if you are an advanced user willing to experiment and run the risk of damaging some of your projects.

Reminds me of myself, when I used to collect READ-MEs, for no good reason at all.  tongue

http://i52.tinypic.com/5es7t0.png I know what you're thinking! "Neptune! Get rid of those filthy advertisements and give us back the Zarathustra siggy, you horrible person!" Well, don't worry about it, the Zara siggy will be back soon, new and improved! ^^ Meanwhile, just do what the sig tells you to. >.>

Re: Scratch IMAGE files

Mick, it's a great idea to collect Scratch image files! Not only is this a good documentation of Scratch's genesis, but you can actually learn some things from these images, especially if you're into Smalltalk and fool around with their error-messages...

Thanks Jens! I thought it was just another crazy collection thing, like stamp collecting, or in MyRedNeptune's case ReadMes.  smile

I would create copies of the project (I don't mean the glough way-copy projects on your computer and put them in different places).  That way you don't dammage your project.

Re: Scratch IMAGE files

I'll have to learn the code Scratch is written in and make my own files! I'll hook in some cool and by God useful bricks.

I'd also try to add more networking capability so your little Scratch applications can update themselves over the Internet, or you can play games on the Internet (meaning you can create home-made MMORPG's).

Cool! Just upload it somewhere when its finished & leave the link here. Or maybe you can e-mail it to me, but I think its against the rules to share e-mail adresses here.

Re: Scratch IMAGE files

I have been editing out email addresses (except for Scratch Team or ScrathR people) from the forums, as I also believe that it is considered inappropriate to share e-mail addresses on the forum.  The "Terms of Use" do not say anything about this though, so I would appreciate hearing from the Scratch Team whether I should be editing out e-mail addresses or not from the forum.  (If I should, then perhaps that restriction should be made explicit in the Terms of Use.)

Re: Scratch IMAGE files

I think it's a good idea to remove e-mail addresses. On the other hand it seems that sometimes people do need to contact each other directly. I guess a solution would be to let them contact each other through their blogs or social network profiles if they have one.

Should these guidelines be added to the Terms of Use?

If anyone is having this problem, extract it using WinRAR.

Re: Scratch IMAGE files

It's Squeak!. It is basically a 'picture' that sits on top of Squeak!. All versions of Scratch are 'pictures', the Scratch source code is one, and Jens' Chirp! is another.

Can anyone provide a better def?

Re: Scratch IMAGE files

In a Smalltalk environment such as Squeak an image file refers to an integral part of the executable, comperable to what you get when you suspend an OS to disc. Therefore Scratch is not really "running on top of Squeak" but rather a version of Squeak itself.

I'm delighted with Mick's description of Scratch being "like Squeak in a Halloween costume". That's not only a witty remark but a pretty bright way of looking at it from a technical point of view!

Re: Scratch IMAGE files

Thanks Mick! This was a real good idea. I'm trying to experiment with the web camera block. Does someone know of experimental blocks that would read frequencies from the microphone (instead of only volume)?

I prepared an image with the clone hack by ChrisCrouch (see a description at http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic.php?pid=47184#p47184). You can download the image from http://www.sitibs.com/files/stefano/ScratchSourceCode1.2.1-clone.zip
