Hi!
In addition to what Nick wrote, you can also run your Scratch projects from a CD. Just put your projects plus the following files on a CD:
Scratch.exe
Scratch.image
Scratch.ini
ScratchPlugin.dll
Mpeg3Plugin.dll
license.txt
If will you need to run the CD on Mac's, you should also add the file:
Scratch.app
which you can get from the Macintosh version of Scratch.
To run a project off the CD, double-click on Scratch.exe (or Scratch.app), then click the "open" button and pick your project.
I hope that helps!

Sadly, because Scratch is freeware, there's no CD version of it.
Everyone who uses the Scratch website can guarantee that it is 100% virus free. Does your computer have any virus protection? All computers should. Ask your parents about that.
Why don't you show your parents around the website? Tell them that it's made by MIT (they'll know what it is) and also show them this page. It might help settle their minds.
Good luck!

That's a good idea, as long as your computer and the school both use the same operating system!
Don't mind me saying, but your parents seem a little bit over-paranoid about it.

We can all tell you that Scratch won't slow your computer down because...
... It has no programs launched on startup that make your computer start slower.
... No system tray rubbish
... Only 50 MB of hard drive space while my vista folder takes up 7.3 Gig (! didn't knew that ) It takes about 0,007% of the Vista folder...
It won't give your PC a virus because...
... your downloading from a site that you can trust (mind the mit.edu)
... we have all downloaded it without getting a virus.
Your parents should read this thread. Btw, you can get viruses in so many more ways that just downloading...

JSO has a DiscScratchR that I'm surprised he didn't mention. Here's the topic: http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic.php?id=5468 but I guess that's only for projects... But it still may come in handy!
