Now it happend the 7th time in the paint editor:
There was much text.
I used the stamp tool and the zoom.
First the text in the paint editor disappeared.
Then I moved the paint editor window and all text including the text in the blocks and the other sprites and objects disappeared.
I clicked the OK button.
The mouse disappeared (?!?)
I saved the project.
I re-opend Scratch and the project.
All text on the the sprite was still invisible.
When I opened the text editor and then clicked OK, the text was visible.
That's it!
Windows 7; 8 GB ram

Has anybody noticed? Most of them have the internet open.

I was painting a background with the instructions for a game and it had quite a bit of text. Then, bam, the text disappeared. I did not have the internet open, and I didn't have any other applications running. The project only was taking up 78 kb of space, and I have had much bigger projects (up to 2,689 kb!) that have not had this problem. I was on a PC. My computer has nearly 3 gb of free space on it (yet, my iPod has 7 free gb and I have nearly 600 songs!) Anyways, I saved it, shut down my computer, then restarted my computer, and reopened the project, and found that it had not saved! I had to redo the whole instructions and 3 of the scripts because of the text disappearing glitch!

You dont need to shut down, just exit scratch. Im not sure why it didnt save, but so far I've noticed it happens a lot to me while writing dialogue, instruction, and other sprites with lots of text. It doesnt seem to matter how many of these you have, I think, just how much text is in the biggest one. Thats my observation, anyways.

I was making a project in the paint editor, I had a BUNCH OF text typed in it. Later, I was drawing some pictures in the same costume that I typed the text in, then I was drawing words and then suddenly all the text I typed was invisible, I clicked OK then noticed the name of the costume was blank! (including the name of the sprite became blank)
Also I only had a stage, no sprites, and no scripts. And I only had three backgrounds
Plus I have a big 500GB hard drive and has 206GB left, and I have 4GB of RAM and a good CPU and GPU (CPU: Intel Pentium Dual Core 3.00GHz. GPU: Intel Express Chipset G43/G45)
My OS is Windows 7 Home-Premium 64-bit. And the Scratch version is 1.4. Plus my web browser is Opera 11.60 (Build 1185)
My system is also very stable and barely crashes

It is linked to the RAM and computer usage. People say when they have a lot of art or lots of scripting, or lots of Scratch applications, it crashes.
Why? RAM is short for Random Access Memory, which applications use to hold temporary information, which Scratch does a lot. This is why because of more information is used, Scratch 'hiccups' and starts acting weirdly.
Why wasn't it in previous versions of Scratch? The current versions are the ones who are the most complicated, which require more RAM. Or, Scratchers got advanced enough to build such complex applications.
Why doesn't it happen to other users? It all depends on how much RAM they have and how well their version of Scratch and their operating system handles it. Mac OS is much WORSER WORSER WORSER WORSER than Windows at handling this information.Mac OS sucks my idiot. I really hate Mac OS. I feel like swearing 1000 times.
Actually, Mac OS X's handling of memory is MUCH MUCH better than Windows. After all, if you end csrss.exe in Windows Vista or below, it will BSOD. This doesn't happen with any process in Mac OS X. Anyway, this bug is Windows only; it doesn't happen on Unix-Based OSes including Mac OS X. So stop hating on Macs

GAAAAAAAH!!! It happed again. It happed even worse than I've ever gotten it.
I had one sprite, but it had no text.
I was making a background with 2 lines of text in 24-point sized font in the font Ariel Bold.
I clicked Okay, and all of the text disappeared almost instantly.
All of the text disappeared, even in the dropdown bar for broadcasts and such.
As I moused over the Save Icon, it disappeared too!
All of the Icons disappeared aswell.
Even the thing at the top that says Scratch disappeared, too! (the logo)
All of the text in the WHOLE PROGRAM disappeared!
I clicked the green flag. I had a lot of
when gf clicked say [Whatever] for (2) secsI had no lists or variables.

So this means that the bug is contained inside the .sb file?

It always occurs when I'm adjusting a background [with a large costume] or a sprite with an exceedingly tiny costume. My mouse disappears and flickers, then as I click OK the paint editor closes but all text vanishes. If I reopen the paint editor I can still select it, as in click-dragging my mouse over it and it will select, but I cannot see it. All other text in the Scratch program, even the menu buttons, labels, tab labels which are the Scratch program, also vanishes. But the text reappears if I close the program and reopen it.

Well, every time I open it on a different computer, and start editing a background, after a couple minutes, the text disappears.

This always happens to me when I am making my Scratch News Issues, and nothing else. The projects that the text disappears:
1) Have no sprites whatsoever.
2) Have a LOT of text in them.
3) Usually I am trying to share it, and as the loading bar is almost done, all the text disappears, even the text on the loading bar.

I got the stupid glitch again!!!!!
(Caution: This post contains lots of smileys. )
This time, it was especially annoying.
When I clicked Okay in the for sprite 7 in the paint editor, just the text on Sprite7 disappeared!
I immediately saved the two hour's worth of changes that I had made, then closed down the scratch application. (then went here )
I re-opened up the project. The text was still gone. I clicked the save icon acouple of times and it came back!
Then after about 5 minutes the glitch came back, but on Sprite6.
I closed scratch, reopened, then saved acouple of times to restore text. ( That sticky really helped me!) I edited some costumes for sprite 5. The bug seemed to have flown away ( no. ) Unfortunately, it came back for Sprite7 again
This is so annoying when it only happens for 1 sprite!
Oh, and this time, I was on the Macs at school. ( ) It can happen on PC's and Macs!!
Hope this helped

I found out somthing, I opened the Scratch console and then through the console I forced all of the text to disapeer - When it happens it brings up an error:
ERROR: OUT_OF_MEMORY
So, somthing is clearly causing Scratch to overflow in memory usage and then the text is disapeering.

Also, I have managed to "extract" the files of the .dll that seems to be causing this (UnicodePlugin.dll) - and found this in part of it (Don't worry, No one can probbably understand this)

There's more, but Scratch doesn't support the keys.

That's similar to the last time I got it too. I had just shared a project...and then the text vaporized. I closed Scratch and restarted it and everything was fine after that...but I found it interesting that it seemed to be triggered by sharing.

Interesting! We've often suspected it was memory related. But how did you narrow it down to the UnicodePlugin.dll?

i think he just opened the compiled dll in notepad, which is showing much of weird letters, just as usual on binary. not very important, i guess
what can be interesting, is that squeak is probably limiting its free RAM!
or do you have another reason for it to behave like this? :S

a dynamic libary (AKA a dll) isn't binary code; binary code is somthing like this: 0011101111 - a dll is written in C++, C etc.. and you can only read it with a decompiler, which is why it showed the weird letters for me.
Also, I've seen Minecraft do stuff like that (Limiting the free RAM) to about 5% of my RAM, and I have like over 1G of RAM space for Minecraft, so it shouldn't crash..

Well, I read the first post and it said in one of the quotes it was within UnicodePlugin.dll - and anyway, Why is there a UnicodePlugin?

When I was making small sprites (in the paint editor) using the smallest pen, the disappearing text glitch happened.
I guess my project had a lot of scripts, and almost everything was drawn by using the smallest pen in the paint editor.

That's because csrss.exe was the main thing running Windows before Windows 7, where they remade EVERYTHING, LITERALLY.
