Hmmm... you mean all the other text in the program disappearing?

Re: Let's get the "Disappearing Text" problem solved!

Hah. Based on the threads above I've recreated it:

Open the paint editor and make some text. at the very end, press and hold enter until the cursor goes off the screen (more than 5 lines off the screen). Now use the black box and pull the text around until it disappears!

So... you've found out how to make the text disappear?

Re: Let's get the "Disappearing Text" problem solved!

I found what happened. I had my elbow on the keyboard (I didn't know that) so when I paused to talk to my friend, it had pressed the enter key one too many times. >.<

I get the problem without the paint editor, though...

Re: Let's get the "Disappearing Text" problem solved!

We should also share our specs for the computers we use with Scratch.

I have 1GB RAM, a 2.80GHz Intel Dual-Core(?) processor and Intel Graphics (yes, they are really bad at games like Roblox.)

I haven't experienced this problem, not even at school.
Did they try using ANSI encoding? Eh...

I think it is because it MAY have gotten mixed up fatally with another drawing program scripts, one that can undo text, and then you press UNDO in  undos and takes away all text, thinking that the whole scratch window is a drawing.

This has never happened on my Macs, on my iPod touch Scratch Connect(links with the project maker), but it did happen randomly when I had to do an important project on a PC.

Re: Let's get the "Disappearing Text" problem solved!

I was typing an instruction page on a big project (luckily I'd only just started it!) and I only had like a couple scripts and no spirtes and a few backgrounds, then it suddenly happened. I save all the time now.

Re: Let's get the "Disappearing Text" problem solved!

I was editing a *cannot remember* project and the File Edit Share Help menus disappeared when i mouse over them. Same happened with everything else involving text. I clicked the invisible file menu, and i clicked the non existing save button and opened up scratch again and everything was fine.

Re: Let's get the "Disappearing Text" problem solved!

A way I've found to solve it temporarily is to minimise the Scratch window, then open it again - not sure why this works, but it does for me...

Re: Let's get the "Disappearing Text" problem solved!

i found out how to get the text back but i dont know how to get rid of the problem. How to get your text back:
1. you need to have the scratch program completely memorized.
2. click where the file button should be.
3. click where the save button should be.
4. once it is saved exit out of scratch.
5. open scratch back up.
6. open up your project.

the text should be back for normal stuff like sprite names and that stuff.

If the text in your sprites or background is gone:
1. click on your costumes tab, or backgrounds tab.
2. click the edit button then click ok.
3. the text that was in your sprite or background should re-appear.

i know if you have a lot of costumes or backgrounds this will take a while.

Re: Let's get the "Disappearing Text" problem solved!

I have experienced this problem, causing to leave my project I was working on. It is a real pain. I know that it has  to do something with computer memory also. Paddle2See said so too in a different post. I think some of this has to do with computer memory because when I tried to take a screen shot of the text disappearing problem, my computer gave me an error that said something like this: "Your computer does not have enough memory to take a screen shot. Close all other applications and try again." Okay, it does not take much memory to take a screen shot and I had troubles with only scratch open, so computer memory fits into this problem some how. There are also many different types and simple cures for some, but more complicated ones that have yet to be figured out.

Re: Let's get the "Disappearing Text" problem solved!

It happened to me on fathers day! I made a spinner where you spin and get prizes. When I was setting up the spinner, all the text disappeared. I rebooted scratch and tried again. It didn't happen when I hit Ok on the paint editor, it happened while I was typing. Oh no! here it comes! ARGGH_________Technical difficulties, please stand by.___________ Taken over my computer! Help!... So anyways, it happened 3 times in less than 10 minutes! I need help!!!

Looks as if it was some sort of uncaught exception leaking to the memory...

Re: Let's get the "Disappearing Text" problem solved!

Ah, jeez..we've spent hours and hours trying to nail this bug, but it's a really tricky one. We think it has something to do with the Windows Unicode libraries. Unicode helps make it possible to translate Scratch into different languages.

The only good workaround at this point is to save your project frequently. You may want to save milestone versions of your project every now and again, in case the most recent version gets messed up by this bug. Like: myproject1.0, myproject 1.1, myproject1.2, etc.

Again, sorry about this bug, everyone! We'd love to squash it but it's just so hard to reproduce it consistently. So we may have to wait till Scratch 2.0 (which will not suffer from this pesky glitch.)

As when it comes back up it rebuilds the text.
