This was awhile ago, but when I was working on my Chalkboard PAC-Man project, I was working and I got this glitch. Eventually, it got to a point where this glitch was happening one minute after I opened my project. It kept on happening and happening when I was editing text in Paint Editor. Eventually, I deleated a project in my Scratch Projects folder that somehow took up 8000 kb, and another one that was 2000 kb. After that, the glitch happened one more time, and it stopped entirely. I no longer have the old version of my PAC-Man project, so I can't give it.
I have a quad-core PC running Windows 7.

To fix this, save your project, and quit out of scratch. Then, reopen the project, and save it several times. All of your text should be back. Hope this helps!

It just happened to me 4 times!
size of my project : 3,996KB
number of sprites: 19
when it happened: always in the editor! 3 times when I tried to use the clone button and one time when I made a line...
while scratch was running, I had the internet browser open.
It's really annoying! This project should have been my next big game ...

Hmmm, the clues all add up! large file sizes, then disapearing text! someone puts alot of text in their project, it happens! i bet that squeak image may not be able to get enough Memory, which causes the text to disapear there may be a solution but it may not work
goto task manager and find the scratch process and right click it, make sure to be on processes. now when right clicked hover over "set priority" and set it to either high or above normal, this might give it a memory boost and make sure to read the warning and understand that it may affect other processes. if that fails, make your sprites smaller on the aint editor, dont make too much text, dont spam click the file option and dont have too many sprites and fonts/text showing! if it still doesnt help, then try to find othert ways of expanding the squeak memory/RAM. And make sure you have the right requirements to run scratch, maybe even get a memory upgrade.

It seems to me that this glitch is caused when i use big fonts (and i mean big in memory usage and kb) I only have one font that uses a lot of memory/kb and thats coalition. However it seemed to me that it only disappeared if i was using that font and I would zoom in, in the paint editor. Also this font does cause lag on many other programs i use, because of it's size.

Hello,
The text bug happens to my students all the time. It drives me crazy. When 15 out of 30 students ( 9 year olds) start going crazy when the text disappears. Do you know how long it can take a kid to write 5 lines? We have more than enough memory, they write their sentences in a stage and it disappears. It happens on some of the computers, but not the same ones ( 30 groups of 35 students)
I usually get it back by saving, closing, opening and editing the stage. The use Arial, which is a pretty common font.
PLEASE find a way to fix it. Thanks.

i have a sprite that has multiple costumes, each with text and graphics. when i was creating a new costume, i used the select tool on the graphics, and i accidently selected some text. when i released the mouse, *poof*
nothing unusal about the project, not very big, and just one script

Here's something from Cheddargirl that you might find interesting:
Cheddargirl wrote:
The disappearing text bug becomes more common if you're running programs that require a lot of memory (running IE along with Scratch might have been the culprit here), or if your Scratch project has a lot of text in it already in some form (script comments, project notes, text in sprite costumes).

Lots of scripts and comments
No text on backgrounds or costumes
Only costumes for each sprite were a black dot
The sprite names were visible until I selected a sprite it's name turned invisible
Scratch was the only program open
The first two letters of the project name disappeared but not the rest
Lots of broadcasts and variables
A few scripts were quite long
Windows 7
No scripts running
Was not editing anything when it happened
What can be deducted from this information?

I just had the disappearing text bug! I had been on scratch working on this project for quite a while (about 1 1/2 hours). It happened right when I hit the okay button on the share textbox (where you post your project online). I am keeping the project as it is - maybe seeing the project will help! Here is the project.

an odd case.
i was working in the paint editor, i was zoomed in, but when i finished and zoomed out, all the text in the sprite i had been working on was gone. also the name, x, y, and direction numbers wer gone. this also happened on my other sprites, that were almost exactly the same, exept the text in them didnt dissapear. i had had the variable page open, but the variable names were gone. the project was quite small, but it had about ten variables.
oh, and i had been working on it last night, and left it up overnight. and the file button, edit button, and the game title went too. when i saved, closed, and reopened,
the name, file and edit were there. so were the variable names.
but the text in ALL of the sprites was gone now.

When the text disappears try these:
1) select a different sprite
2) move the scripts around
They worked for me.
I use a Windows 7 btw.
when i receive [disappearing text v] repeat until <(text) = (showing)> go to [another sprite v] move (item (any v) of [scripts v]) steps end set [mood v] to [happy]

The same thing happens to me all the text stays fine in the scripts except variables and broadcasts and all the text in costumes disappear. That is the most annoying. When I saved it all the scripts were fixed but costumes stayed buggy until I opened them in the paint editor and then saved them then they fixed as well.

Those only work when it has happened to the scripts but not when it happens to the rest of the project like the costumes.

I Noticed, i was making a CC (Coloring Contest)
and i was making the rules before that happens and then i was adding the background and then that happens! D:

I came up with a theory of why it might happen here

I had the problem with a background with a reasonable (but not execssive) amount of txt on. I've uploaded the project as textglitchdemo in case it helps. The project is pretty small with only 4 sprites and nothing too complicated but it is the first project I've worked on where the layering of the sprites was important and the first time I've had the problem so I don't think in my case it's to do with machine resources unless it is fonts but why would the text be visible sometimes but disappear during editing in that case?
The stage background text is still there but when I download (in case upload/download helps) it is not shown until I go into paint editor and if I try to edit it disappears and I think it's at that stage that other text starts to disappear such as menus and variable names in scripts. Could the layers be an issue? If I delete all the sprites and save the text appears normally.
