So you saw me make threads about GaiaOnline right? The problem is you need to be 13+, and I lied my age. On a topic I made on Gaia, regarding faking your age. Somebody said it was bad because of something about the law...
Something like: "It's restricted to 13+ because of the law" or something like that. So I'm afraid the cops will find out I lied, or sue Gaia.
I NEED HELP!

Penguins, don't worry, NO ONE gets in trouble about faking their age. Maybe with your parents but the cops will never get involed with some kid faking his age. And there is no law that I know of that says you will get arrested for faking your age. And they can't sue GAIA either. So you can calm down now.

Thanks. I'm hoping if I do feel quite uncomfortable, I'll tell my dad. He'll then understand why I lied too, because I'd say something like:
"Well my sister(I'd replace this with her name) told me about it, she saw it on advertisments and people in our school play it. I was looking for a new site to go on, so I signed up. I really wanted to join, so I faked ages. I don't go to the innapropiate parts. If I do, it wouldn't be too bad, the older grades at my school probably would say the same stuff!" Thanks.

Anyways, they won't find out, trust me. Just don't go to every site possible saying that you lied about it.

Not to stray off topic but why do users use scratch to ask for help about their everyday problems. i saw a topic about someone wanting to know if they had OCD or not.

Yeah, the 13+ law was actually meant to protect kids like yourself from innapropiate sites and/or potential stalkers. These sites only use these aggreements because of 1) Its the law, they have to have them, and 2) it gives their lawyers a great way not to get sued. They don't care too much as long as nothing bad happens too you.

Nothing's gonna happen, I lie on the internet all the time
But why even join Gaia? It sucks and also, I'm pretty sure it was created by aliens

which ones, the aliens that wish to rule us or the ones who love to party?
Just lie about your age. They just make you say that because if you get stalked and murdered it's not their problem.

The ones that want to rule over us by ensnaring our kids brain into the interweb
Curse you, aliens and your S stealing machines!

Okay, I don't know what GAIA is, but the reason they're making sure that you're over 13 is because they're not legally allowed to collect email adresses or any personal information whatsoever from anyone UNDER 13. So nobody's going to get in trouble for saying you're over 13 if you're not because they did their duty (the government believes that they, to the best of their ability, have found out that you're under 13) and they can't arrest you because you didn't actually do anything wrong. Understand? (I wasn't very clear, but hey
)

the cops wont hunt you down because you lie about your age

I used to strongly dislike sites age policies, as they were based on the CEOP Act Rules (or whatever they're called). I wasn't affected by this (different country, no law) and in fact couldn't care less. I always got away with it.

Honestly, the "age rule" is pretty useless. I've seen a lot of forums drop it and start using a maturity rule. If you act like an idiot or everything you write is basically spam, that's when they'll ban you. I'd like to see more websites use that instead.
