An important question about the TBG (ignore it that it's a new topic)

After reading posts by cheddargirl and Chrischb (and some people who want the Text-Based Games to stay), I came up with a question to ask all of the people who think that the Text-Based Games should stay. Ask yourself the following:

Does the Text-Based Games belong in the Scratch Forums? Is it part of Scratch? And does it help the Scratch Community?

Three questions. I answered all 'no'.

As far as I am concerned, we should base the answer about deleting the Text-Based Games or not on these three questions. If the Text-Based Games belong in the Scratch Forums, is part of Scratch, and helps the Scratch Community, it should stay. But if it doesn't belong in the Scratch Forums, isn't part of Scratch, and doesn't help the Scratch Community, it should be deleted.

As usual, I will have this closed after a few days. Just mentioning.

What not to answer (since these answers are silly and pathetic):

The Text-Based Games belong in the Scratch Forums! They're in there, come on! That's like saying "Oh, Alaska belongs in the United States because it's there!". Seriously pathetic. For the people who think that I don't like Alaska, I do think Alaska should be part of the United States. Though I wouldn't care much if it weren't.

Of course the Text-Based Games are part of Scratch! They're in the Scratch Forums/Scratch Website! That's like saying that something's part of something else just because it's in there! Please use your common sense.

The Text-Based Games are part of the Scratch Community! They're in the Scratch Forums/Scratch Website! This isn't even a proper answer to any of the three questions. Anyway, see above.

The Text-Based Games do help the Scratch Community! They raise morale/happiness/fun! Pathetic. Games are always fun (unless they're games like "jump off of the Empire State Building without any safety equipment or we kill you!"), so no excuses. It's like saying "Computer programmers will work their job better if you install computer games onto their work computers!" That is disaterous. Can you imagine Microsoft doing that? No, I'm not talking about the fact that they'll spend all their time playing games instead of working. I'm talking about the fact that you're assuming that you can add games and fun into everything.

The Text-Based Games do help the Scratch Community! They stop spam! Ridiculous (and by the way, it doesn't stop spam. The spam just happens in there). For the reasons, check the section in my Suggestions topic about what we can do of getting rid of the Text-Based Games (it includes the answer to this). Or just check my reply in the posts.

I think you get the point.

No answers like "Come on, Jonathanpb! What's wrong with having fun every now and then" or "It's nice to have fun sometimes, think!" or "You can get inspiration and surveys in the Text-Based Games!". The first two are silly (you can have fun on a different website), and you can do the stuff in the third in Inspiration and More.

Thanks!
Jonathanpb

Re: An important question about the TBG (ignore it that it's a new topic)

I already mentioned that I agree on this around 75% but one thing that i am starting to get annoyed about is the fact that you/everyone else keeps making about 89000 different threads saying they should stay/go more or less adding to the spam where it doesn't belong  hmm

Can't you just keep it to one?

Again, on the 1,000 thread you have made about this, you are wrong. TBG helps the forums! It keeps the games out of Show and Tell and other topics where it would be spam. In TBG, it's fine! And really, what is your problem with TBG? Why is it so bad?

I already posted this in my Suggestions topic, but people never seem to notice...

This is the fourth thread. The first was the survey, the second was the Suggestions topic, the third was explaining why I wanted the Text-Based Games deleted (because people never read the seven reasons and they just guessed, which led to many insults; nothing big), and this is a survey. If you haven't noticed, I always ask someone to close the extra topics after a short while.

I wouldn't say that the games are spam... and as I have stated plenty of times before, it only takes five minutes a day to get rid of everything. And if people don't learn, there can be stickies reminding people not to post.

Therefore, it doesn't really count. I don't know if you're getting what I mean (only a very small amount of people probably will), but it makes perfect sense if you get it.

You have posted the best answer possible. I didn't think of this... anyway, congratulations!

And for your information, I don't hate Text-Based Games. It's just that it doesn't belong with Scratch...

Why can't the Scratch Team just let it be known that all games will be closed? They do the same to chatrooms already.

I changed your invisible text to Super-Bold!  big_smile

You get away with it because you put that smiley in.  big_smile

And that wouldn't be ignorant. That would be stupid and ridiculous.  big_smile

Have you ever read his posts? He's explained that it's not that he hates fun! The same applies to the twenty-one people who agree with him.

It's not that we hate fun! It's just that we have understood that the Text-Based-Games are not are part of Scratch, and they do not help the Scratch Community at all.
No, if you were going to say that they help users make new friends, the New Scratch Members forum already exists. And it's more relevant anyway.

And by the way, he only calls people ignorant because they don't read the reasons at all. They just assume that he hates fun, or some other silly reason like that.

Fourth, yeah that is much better than one! It doesn't matter 1,000th thread or 1st, it's not going to happen. Any changes on the forums are all decided by the Scratch Team.

Re: An important question about the TBG (ignore it that it's a new topic)

Obviously the answers to those questions make it seem like it should be deleted. The questions should be:

Does it have to do with Scratch?
Will it do good if it's deleted?
Does it matter if there's an off topic section where people can talk about something other than Scratch for a change while they're doing something such as waiting for a reply?

All of my answers are no.

Re: An important question about the TBG (ignore it that it's a new topic)

Please, why do we have to make this a big life or death situation? ITS JUST A SCREEN. You could just make a new forum, or go to the random forum! They both almost EXACTLY the same as this, and you could just copy over the posts in one big quote at the top of your topic in theirs! I want it to stay, but I wont be crying if it goes away.

(BTW: I want TBG to stay cuz it has the first topic to reach 10000 posts  tongue )

Re: An important question about the TBG (ignore it that it's a new topic)

All these useless topics need to be closed. YOU cannot change what's on the forums. The Scratch Team does that. Are you on the Scratch Team? No, so nothing is going to happen.

I can't change things, but I can suggest things. And I always ask for the topics to be closed eventually. I would have asked already, but this fell down so I didn't bother. But you bumped it back up, so I'm going to suggest it.

That bit about me not being on the Scratch Team so nothing's going to happen... if that were true, why did the Scratch Team make suggestions? And why is it that some suggestions have happened? Think about that.  smile
