This is a really simple message about the common problem: Signature troubles. Well, there's a simple solution:
You need to be a Scratcher.
"What? But I am a Scratcher! I use Scratch and everything..."
Well, yes - but there are forum rankings, and the one you need to be is called 'Scratcher'. If it says that under your username beside all your forum posts, well done. If not (it'll say New Scratcher*), don't worry! You just need to be active a little longer.
Activity isn't everything; you can't just sit and wait. Nope, you need to show your activity! Make projects, comment on other people's projects, make posts, browse the website; you'll get there.
If you're wondering why there's such an odd rule, don't worry: it's not pointless. It was installed to stop SEO spammers (people who post links to commercial websites to try and boost their ranking in search engines). The previous rule was that you needed to have been on the forums for 15 days or more (regardless of rank), but some people would sit and wait.
Don't worry, it'll be worth it in the end (signatures are fun).
However, you may type a signature to be ready. It won't show up, so don't panic.
Now, use the time to your advantage. Get some ideas!
Here are some for those who are desperate (we like to help, don't we?):
• One of your favorite quotes. If you have a book of them, try looking for one if you don't have a favorite already.
• A link to one of your games. It'll give you more views, and it's a popular choice. Don't forget to add some pictures; they'll look nice as long as your graphics do too!
• Something random that you've seen and liked.
• A joke. But please don't do one that we've all seen before (unless it's part of the point).
If you're stuck, simply look around for inspiration.
*unless you're a forum mod or Scratch Team member, but in that case you'll be able to do a signature already.

Have you decided on a signature yet? It's always stressful when you reach 51 posts and realize that you don't have one in mind... that happened to me. Oopsie!

i don't get it...

You need at least 51 posts.
That's sorted, but one more thing:
You may type a signature. It just won't show up.
So, that's sorted. For more information on signatures, here's a link: Signatures
I hope you enjoy finding a signature you like!![]()
Ohhhh. I was wondering why it wouldn't show up

The 51 posts is more for preventing commercial spammers who come into the forums - enforcing the signature rule prevents commercial spammers from putting advertisement links in their signature. (Basically it comes down to this: it is more likely that a person involved in the Scratch community will reach 51 posts instead of a commercial spammer. Hence why there is a 51 post rule
)

Shame that it encourages spamming, but at least the posts can be removed and the user banned if he/she persists.

Well, I wouldn't really say it necessarily encourages spamming: I think it encourages more people to become more involved in the Scratch community by using the forums.

I suppose so, unless they just play games instead.

Updated because of the new 15 day rule!
Sorry I forgot for a while... but nobody noticed.

You should mention why there's the '15 days' rule...

You won't lose your signature unless you put something inappropriate, and a mod or Scratch Team member removes it
I think this thread is referring to people whose accounts are under 15 days old

Yeah, I went to see if I could make a signature since i'm new to the scratch boards, and it said I had to be on here for 15 days. But i'm confused. I know the reason of the 15 day rule but why are some people saying that you have to have 51 posts? Do you have to be on 15 days AND have 51 posts? Or is that the old rule and now you have to be on 15 days? Please help!
Thanks!

The 51 post rule is not used anymore, you just need to be active for 15 days.

Well, the rules here have changed again! If you are a "New Scratcher" that didn't already have a signature, you are going to have to wait until you achieve full "Scratcher" before you can create a signature.
This latest change was done because commercial spammers were creating spam signatures advertising some company...posting all over the place, and then the 15 day limit would be up and suddenly Scratch would be full of commercial spam links. Hopefully the new feature will put a stop to that.

Great, thanks for updating! I'm a bit concerned about your phrase "mean rule" though...I don't think it's mean to require people to earn their privileges. I'm sure you don't consider it "mean" that you have to demonstrate your skill with a car before you are allowed to drive on the roads, right? It's kind of the same thing - here you have to demonstrate that you are a real member of the community before you are allowed the full privileges that a member deserves.

I've been on scratch for I think 5-6 months, and I'm on almost everyday! It's not about how often your on scratch, but on how many posts you have in the forums (sorry if i'm acting tense here).... I believe from what CloneCommando1 has told me is that you only have to make 25 posts in the forums to become a quote real scratcher. (again sorry if i seem tense)
