Re: Project won't upload

Looking at the dates, this seems to be more of the "bugged since around November" of last year crowd. We're having a party, it sucks.

Maybe your computer needs more RAM. Try installing more RAM into your computer.

I don't think RAM is the issue here - the problem here, essentially, is that the connection to the server failed. Very little RAM is required to connect to a server, or send data across a network.

Re: Project won't upload

Since just worked on the servers all my downloads say they are smaller in size than they really are. (I am on dial-up so I see) The bar gets to 100% but the download continues, often for 50% longer?!?!

I could upload projects under 210k every time but not now. It took me 13 tries to upload a 95k project this morning. Btw, I'm not just complaining, I keep mentioning things because 1) I wish I could help fix this!! and 2) people often seem to act surprised as if this problem has been resolved so once again.. my uploads have been all but crippled since November of 2009. There are more people with this same problem.

Personally, I really wish the Scratch team would publicly acknowledge that something is wrong and that they are working on it but honestly by now, I've just about given up hope. Se4ems like more and more of this type or similar upload errors are occuring too by the number of "help" forum posts, or is that just me imagining it?

Re-install? Done multiple ways already. I'd be willing to reformat my pc if anyone was interested! I hate to keep bringing this old post back, I guess some time I will start a new one. Otherwise people keep suggesting things that I have either already tried or that are no-brainers. They don't go back through my old posts. Big thanks to coolstuff and everyone for responding previously. I know it's no fun being stuck in the middle of something like this.

And btw, I will ALWAYS need more RAM but not for this problem  big_smile

What about parental protection software...any of that installed and running on your computer?

Do you have access to other computers in your house with Scratch installed - if so can they upload projects?

Is your computer a laptop?  If so - have you tried taking it to a different internet connection point (like a library) and uploading from there?

Can you copy the file onto another computer and upload it from that computer?

Re: Project won't upload

I have never had a problem Pinging or connecting to the Scratch server.  But often a project will not upload because it's too big.  I always seem to accrue that problem.  Most people realize this, but some do not, so these steps could solve someone's problem perhaps.  I apologize for insulting anyone's intelligence here, this guide is pretty rudimentary.

NOTE: These steps can only help if when trying to upload a project, you receive the error "Failed: Unknown Reason"

1.) If you're running Windows, click Start -> My Documents (or Documents depending on your Operating System) -> Scratch Projects.

2.) Find the project you are attempting to upload unsuccessfully and right click it -> Properties.  It should open a window, change the tab to "General".

3.) Look down a few lines until you see "Size".  Read the number in parentheses.  If it is over 7,000,000 bytes, (7MB) you could have trouble getting it to upload.

4.) Go back into Scratch and delete some music or pictures you may have imported into the project to lower the file size.

5.) Finally before you upload in Scratch click Edit -> compress Sounds -> Lowest (smallest).

Doing those things should help you upload your project, decrease loading time online, and make it lag less.  Hope I helped somebody.
