would it be possible for scratch to be able to read the current time on your computer and set it as a variable

1.4.1 will probably not include new features. The x.x.1 releases are always bug fixes, new features are for a full new release of Scratch. But maybe in 1.5 or 1.6.
But yeah, I second this. It's an excellent idea that Scratch has been lacking since it's inception.
