Global Warming... Save the Polar Bears! (and the humans!)

Global warming is a very bad thing. For those of you who don't know how global warming happens, here it is:

The sun's rays go into the earth's atmosphere. Some escape, some get trapped. The trapped ones build up heat on the earth. Yes, I know this is natural, so how can it be bad? Humans. We use to much factories and stuff, which causes greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases keep the sun's rays in more. So when more and more are trapped, it gets hotter and hotter.

The ice caps will melt, floods will happen, storms will be more common, shorline citys will be flooded perminently.

more to come. global warming IS real. watch the Al Gore movie, an inconvinient truth.

Stop Global Warming!

There's no such thing as global warming. The world has been poluted though.

martianshark could be right because the earth could be getting closer to the earth which could effectively heat the world.

Re: Global Warming... Save the Polar Bears! (and the humans!)

There are a lot of theories about global warming.

I personally feel that it's merely a cycle, with various natural and human effects changing the cycle more rapidly than usual.

Re: Global Warming... Save the Polar Bears! (and the humans!)

I don't believe in global warming for 3 reasons:
1. I don't feel any changes at all. If anything is happening, I think it's getting colder.
2. Most people ignore this, but there's more polar bears than there usualy is in Alaska.
3. I think that scientists have figured out that global warming doesn't exist, they're just making excuses so that they don't look stupid (have you noticed that now instead of global warming, they're calling it "climate change"?)

My quick response is simply that #1 is an invalid point... Your personal experience means almost nothing when determining the existence of climate change.

#2 Again, this doesn't really prove much.

#3 I think this has more to do with being "politically correct", not avoiding some admission that climate change isn't happening.

The entire planet doesn't just get hotter. Some of can actually get colder; it all depends on where you are and such.

Ok solution to all of those

Global warming, is thickening the atmsophere, right, which means that less sunrays are getting in, so after quite a few years of lot's of heat, well let's just say it may get colder, and when I say colder, I mean a lot colder

http://www.commondreams.org/views04/0130-11.htm there's an article on it

Actually it kinda meens both, tempratures continuosly change although the atmosphere isn't the only thing that affects climate change  smile  Some things such as the Earth's orbit play a part too  smile

Re: Global Warming... Save the Polar Bears! (and the humans!)

It's simple.

Whenever you drive a car (or ride around in a motorized vehicle), you release fumes. Think about how disgusting this is. But as all of the cars in the world release fumes, that's plenty to worry about. All of the fumes collect up in the atmosphere, and they let less of the heat from the Sun escape. It basically acts as a blanket, trapping more heat in.

Yes, as it gets hotter (or colder; it depends where you are), the Arctic starts to melt. Which is really bad for polar bears. They are considered an endangered species now.

The sea level rises too. This is not because of icebergs. When they melt, it does no effect (honestly!). What rises the sea level is the fact that the snow on mountains melt and get into the ocean. This rises the level. The problem is that no snow takes the old snow's place.

Of course, heating water will expand it. That's something there.

Don't believe that the sea is rising? Ask the thousands of villagers who have to leave their island due to flooding.

Interested in more? Check out my two speeches about the Earth. The first one: http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/Jonathanpb/178690 . The second one: http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/Jonathanpb/245703 . I really should make more...

And after the sea has risen, and blocked of different, specific heat points (I think) we enter an ice age

Look at any average tempature map that shows the last 300 years or something like that. The tempeture goes up then down, up then down, and just because it's higher than in the last 300 years doesn't mean it's not going to go back down.

From the World Wildlife Fund website:

The polar bear is listed as ‘vulnerable’ on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species. The US government recently listed it as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act, citing the risk of the species eventually becoming extinct due to the melting of its sea ice habitat.

Hmm, whose scientific credentials do I trust more?  A respected, worldwide charity, or somebody who doesn't actually know what "proof" is?

No, it isn't hotter. The hottest time was a while back, before this global warming theary existed. I forgot exactly when it was.

The US government doesn't know what their talking about. If you lived in Alaska, you would realize that polar bears are NOT endangered.

The sun is slowly increasing it's energy output. So this sudden increase in heat, may not necessarily mean global warming.

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear. The sun has been increasing it's energy output slowly over time. So, it means the sun is getting warmer. Why the sudden increase? I don't know, but we shouldn't jump to the conclusion that it's definetly global warming.

one flaw in your logic, the previous ice ages, if it had just been the sun increasing energy output, there would be no ice ages

but as stated before, global warming increases the density of the atmosphere, which stops heat leaving, and eventually stop heat coming
