No, not really. The angle of the ladder would be unnessisary information. Imagine the wall as one leg of a triangle, the distance between the bottom of the wall and the ladder as the second, and the entire ladder as the hypotenuse. The length of the hypotenuse(ladder) is unknown. To find the hypotenuse, you square the first and second leg and add them together. You take the sum of the squares and you find the square route of that, and you have the hypotenuse.

No, it's just a sum in which you have to find out the length of the hypotenuse of a right-angled triangle (as steppenwulf said already xP). Angles aren't involved here. o.<

I assumed that 8 ft was one of the sides of the triangle, since no other lengths were given. o.<
