This thread is for people who may not know how to use the scratch forums properly or efficiently. If you are experienced, you may also find some useful info.
There are many forums on this forum. Please find the correct forum to post your threads in. It helps people find what they need.
How to view who's online:
If you want to see how many people are on the scratch forums, just scroll down to the bottom of the screen. You can see other scratchers and maybe some guests and the newest member of the scratch forums!
How to add clickable links:
To add clickable links to your posts, you simply have to type in a BBCode.
This code is:
[url=http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/]Scratch Forums[/url]
That shows up as Scratch Forums
Change the URL in the code to your website link. Change the "Scratch Forums" text to whatever text you want.
How to add code to your posts:
When you're making a post, there are 3 links under the text box. Click on the word "BBCode". That will take you to a page where you can find lots of codes to paste into your posts.
How to edit posts:
Okay, first go to one of your posts, then click the button that says "edit." Then you can start editing your post!
How to Quote:
All you do is go to any post and there is a selection that says "quote." If you click that you can quote something in that post! Erase the stuff that you do NOT want to quote. Be careful when quoting!!!
How to get a Signature:
First you have to have 51 or more posts on the forums.
Then click "profile." Next click "Personality." Do you see the white box? Click that and start typing (or do html). If you need help, just ask me.
Deleting threads:
Go to one of your threads you want to delete and near edit there is the button "Delete" click that and then agree that you want to delete. Be careful when deleting!
Helpful info:
If you post something, there is a 60 second wait before you can post again.
Have fun on the forums!!
If you have any suggestions post them down below! Thanks!
Scratch on!

This is a good idea, to have a topic on how to use the Forums effectively. If we can get some more detailed information in it, it might make a good FAQ topic. Things like maybe:
1. How to add a new topic
2. How to leave a link to a project in your posts
3. What the different forums are for
What else might be good to know?

What do you want to know about how to do the forums?

Lol I thought the first part of this was kinda redundant
It says how to get to the forums, but it's also posted in the forums so you had to do that already
Maybe this should be posted in a Gallery or something

Yeah...telling how to get to the forums in a forum post does seem a little redundant. But the rest of the information could be useful. Particularly if we build it up with information we would like to have known when we first started using the forums.

Is there any way to get email notification from the forums?
Most other forums let you choose to be notified by email when certain threads (e.g. ones you start, or post to) get responses. I cannot find a way to do this here...

Maybe you should make a project about this...

Hey JJmanrulez, you can't make your own Forum (only the Scratch Team can do that), but you can make your own topic! Go to any Forum like All About Scratch or FAQ - in the top right you will a "Post new topic" button. Click that and voila!

Hey, why are there different stages of membership (Member, Forum Moderator)? Can you get promoted? If so, how do you get promoted?
Thanks to whoever can answer my question!
~Valiant
Hey there, Valiant.
There are different titles for forum members based on the role that member plays in the community. The titles are: Member, Forum Moderator, Scratch Team, and ScratchR.
Both Scratch Team and ScratchR relate to the people who helped to develop Scratch and develop the Scratch website. (you can read more about them here).
Forum Moderator refers to those who help to moderate the Scratch Forums.
Members, as you have probably guessed it, refers to regular users on the website.
There is currently no way for regular members to become a Scratch Team member or a ScratchR. Forum Moderator titles are given to users by the Scratch Team based in a person's overall interactions on the forums and the main website.
Hope this answers your question!

How do you make it so that if your signature is clicked, it will take you somewhere?
