I'm trying to extract still images from an AVI video file...is there a good program that anyone can recomend for Vista? Preferably free or inexpensive? Thanks

Yeah the trick is not to use windows media player when trying to get a screen capture. Microsoft made it so that when you try to save a snapshot of the windows media player it will appear as a blank screen. Try installing VLC media player, running your video from there and pressing ctrl+print screen.

I don't have Vista (I've got Win7 and WinXP, but never tried on Win7), but in Windows XP's Movie Maker (v2.1, Vista is 2.6) there is a button the captures a still from your video.

I would suggest using Paint.NET http://getpaint.net
with the AVI frame importer plugin: http://paintdotnet.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=21917
All free, of course!
