sorry, what did you do again?
I did, on the second issue, don't worry.
Are we working on the thrid issue, we should because then andresmh might make us a section!
I have an article!
What Happened to the Front Page?
Recently, the front page, in particular the Top Veiwed Lately section has been crowded with __________ found the _________ doll projects! Strangely enough, there has been no sight of it in top remixed. But maybe that's a good thing.
These simple doll projects have sparked an outrage among the scratch community, a bit like an aftershock after the large protests a few weeks ago. But the creator, nikkiperson2 is defending herself. And I don't blame her, it's not her fault people decided to remix.
But the reaction is varied. Here are the reactions, taken from the forum topic OMG top viewed is filled with ____ found the ___ doll projects!, by Link:
cheddargirl: I don't hate remixes, but this one seems to be getting out of hand. It would be nice to see something else there beside a '_ found the _ doll' project.
littletonkslover: Yeah there pretty much all the same but oh well they're not bad. It's really not their fault. They are simply having some fun and the project got viewed a lot.
nikkiperson2: I didn't mean for it to get out of hand like that, everyone just kind of started remixing it ;_; I should probably draw the line, and tell people to stop remixing it. there's almost 100 already, last time I checked it was up to 91. I just put in the description that I want people to stop, but I think it's too late for that. People are remixing remixes, and therefore won't get the messege. And I don't want people to stop remixing ALL of my projects FOR GOOD, I just don't want it to go so...overboard.
The-Whiz: Wow... I can't believe it...

I think i'll make another!
The Age of RPG's
RPGs, or role playing games, are all over the text-based games section of the forums. The most popular include WOTF RPGing, Space RPG, Secrets RPG, Demons RPG, and Custom RPG. Other smaller RPG's are created often, and emerge as larger RPGs as more people join.
Why are the RPG's so popular? There's something fun about playing as another character, and in an RPG, that's the whole point. Also, there is a larger interaction with other players, and we've seen small RPG's get many pages of posts overnight, especially if a few of the members are online at the same time.
Looking for an RPG to join? Check out Creation RPG, Zoo RPG, Used car salesmen RPG, Make your own Gym Leader!!!, and if your feeling really up to it, Stocks!
Have fun RPing!

How's that?
Well:
1. Those comments are very hurtful.
2. I don't think technoman would like that on the Scratcher Newspaper for everyone to see. The difference with the article in the first issue and this is the first article was a little...umm...nicer?
3. You wrote one of those comments.
4. You used previous flame wars as an example for this.
So I'm sorry, but I cannot post it.

I agree...
I am rather angry at technoman, but I don't think it is really his fault.
A. There wasn't very much interest near the end.
B. I don't think it would have worked anyway - Judges forget they're judges, etc.

you could write anotherr article though, just saying the gallery has been deleted. Something a little less intense.

1. Sorry, I'm very critical about a lot of things.
2. Agreed
3. There were only the two comments I had in when I posted.
4. Yes, that was going too far.

nice. Also, I know I've asked a thousand times- are you going to put in my interview with Andresmh? I could uproot it if you wanted me to. Also- the only reason it WASNT top remixed was because it was over a week and a half old ^^ thank god for that.

In Their Own Words: Keikij
Greenflash: You make a lot of popular RPGs on the scratch forums. Where do you get your inspiration?
keikij: My inspirations comes from my real life and things I see/read, for example I got Elemental from a similar RPG, the same concept, but with pokemon instead of elements. Others, I just get from my imagination.
Greenflash: What types of RPGs do you like?
keikij: I like Sci-Fi and Fantasy RPGs, but occasionaly, a modern day RPG gets me interested
Greenflash: What is your favorite RPG?
keikij: I can't decide, I love them all.
Greenflash: What do you like about playing RPGs?
keikij: I like that I get to be someone else, it's fun to pretend to be a character that you make up and control their actions.
Greenflash: Why do you like to make RPGs?
keikij: When I was 4, my dad introduced me to Dungoens and Dragons, I loved D&D, and still do. My love of D&D the root of my love of RPGs.
Greenflash: Who is your favorite RPG character? Which RPG are they in, and what is their story?
keikij:I'd say my fave character is Shade Bloodstone from Wizard Academy RPG, Wizard Academy was my first RPG on scratch, I played with SmartIrishKid, Shade was a dark wizard who has a crazy family of evil wizards and ran away to the academy to get training and to be away from his family
Greenflash: Any last thoughts?
keikij:Well, if anyone wants to make an RPG of thier own, most players don't like RPGs that will end very quickly, stories are fine, but if the RPG comes to the end of the story and there is nothing left to do, they don't like it, also, the players want freedom to control thier own characters, not have them be controlled by others. Well, thanks for interviewing me

The End of the Scratch Olympics
On the day of the judging of the Scratch Olympics, word is out that the competition is cancelled. This was found out three days ago, when technoman deleted the gallery to add the projects to be entered to, and didn't really talk much on the stickied thread for the competition. This was most likely a move to save himself and his judges the embarrasment of judging only a few projects from a few teams. I personally think it was more embarrasing to cancel the competition, but what can I do about it?
There is also supposedly a Winter Olympics that will be coming up, and that there'll only be a week to make the projects so people don't forget and lose interest. I do hope that that competition does better, and every Scratcher who enters can show what they're made of.
Better? (Not in a rude tone)

I think it is!
It seems more like you don't have an opinion; or at least not a strong one, where the other one had a srong opinion, you know?

Nikkiperson's Interview with Andresmh:
Nikki:What inspired you and the other creators of scratch to make a programming language?
Andresmh: Scratch is inspired by many years of working on technologies for kids and novices. Some inspirations were Logo, E-Toys, our work with LEGO in the creation of Mindstorms and other projects like that. Our group thought that it was time to create a new programming environment that was more connected to kid's current interests, so media manipulation was key (images, sounds, etc). Later we introduce the social component (the website).
N:Who created the Scratch Cat?
A:We had a cat as the mascot from the very beginning, but it was not the same as the one we had now, it was drawn from above actually. We decided we wanted a new mascot so we asked some artists to draw different options, Gobo was a strong contender. There were also other cats. I really liked the current one because it looked like it came from a Japanese videogame, which I thought people would like.
N:Did you think that this many people would use it?
A:I wasn't sure. I was hoping a lot of people would use Scratch but I don't think I imagined it would be that many people, it came as a surprise, especially at the beginning when we got a lot of attention from the media.
N:What are ‘scratch boards’ and what they do?
A:A Scratch Board is a device with sensors that connects to the USB of a computer. People can use the values of the sensors using the blocks in the sensor category. It comes with sensors for: light, sound, resistance, a button and a slider. People can create their own remote controls using this. It's really cool! My friend Amon is writing his thesis on this topic because he helped create the Scratch Board.
N: Scratch just recently reached half a million projects. How long do you think it will be before the one millionth project?
A:I think it might take 8 months... I don't know, we'll see![]()
here's my interview with Andresmh, re-posted.
