What Happened to the Front Page?
Recently, the front page, in particular the Top Veiwed Lately section has been crowded with __________ found the _________ doll projects! Strangely enough, there has been no sight of it in top remixed. But maybe that's a good thing.
These simple doll projects have sparked an outrage among the scratch community, a bit like an aftershock after the large protests a few weeks ago. But the creator, nikkiperson2 is defending herself. And I don't blame her, it's not her fault people decided to remix.
But the reaction is varied. Here are the reactions, taken from the forum topic OMG top viewed is filled with ____ found the ___ doll projects!, by Link:
cheddargirl: I don't hate remixes, but this one seems to be getting out of hand. It would be nice to see something else there beside a '_ found the _ doll' project.
littletonkslover: Yeah there pretty much all the same but oh well they're not bad. It's really not their fault. They are simply having some fun and the project got viewed a lot.
nikkiperson2: I didn't mean for it to get out of hand like that, everyone just kind of started remixing it ;_; I should probably draw the line, and tell people to stop remixing it. there's almost 100 already, last time I checked it was up to 91. I just put in the description that I want people to stop, but I think it's too late for that. People are remixing remixes, and therefore won't get the messege. And I don't want people to stop remixing ALL of my projects FOR GOOD, I just don't want it to go so...overboard.
The-Whiz: Wow... I can't believe it...The Age of RPG's
RPGs, or role playing games, are all over the text-based games section of the forums. The most popular include WOTF RPGing, Space RPG, Secrets RPG, Demons RPG, and Custom RPG. Other smaller RPG's are created often, and emerge as larger RPGs as more people join.
Why are the RPG's so popular? There's something fun about playing as another character, and in an RPG, that's the whole point. Also, there is a larger interaction with other players, and we've seen small RPG's get many pages of posts overnight, especially if a few of the members are online at the same time.
Looking for an RPG to join? Check out Creation RPG, Zoo RPG, Used car salesmen RPG, Make your own Gym Leader!!!, and if your feeling really up to it, Stocks!
Have fun RPing!Nikkiperson's Interview with Andresmh:
Nikki:What inspired you and the other creators of scratch to make a programming language?
Andresmh: Scratch is inspired by many years of working on technologies for kids and novices. Some inspirations were Logo, E-Toys, our work with LEGO in the creation of Mindstorms and other projects like that. Our group thought that it was time to create a new programming environment that was more connected to kid's current interests, so media manipulation was key (images, sounds, etc). Later we introduce the social component (the website).
N:Who created the Scratch Cat?
A:We had a cat as the mascot from the very beginning, but it was not the same as the one we had now, it was drawn from above actually. We decided we wanted a new mascot so we asked some artists to draw different options, Gobo was a strong contender. There were also other cats. I really liked the current one because it looked like it came from a Japanese videogame, which I thought people would like.
N:Did you think that this many people would use it?
A:I wasn't sure. I was hoping a lot of people would use Scratch but I don't think I imagined it would be that many people, it came as a surprise, especially at the beginning when we got a lot of attention from the media.
N:What are ‘scratch boards’ and what they do?
A:A Scratch Board is a device with sensors that connects to the USB of a computer. People can use the values of the sensors using the blocks in the sensor category. It comes with sensors for: light, sound, resistance, a button and a slider. People can create their own remote controls using this. It's really cool! My friend Amon is writing his thesis on this topic because he helped create the Scratch Board.
N: Scratch just recently reached half a million projects. How long do you think it will be before the one millionth project?
A:I think it might take 8 months... I don't know, we'll see![]()
Interview with joeisawesome
Greenflash: You've been on scratch for more than a year. What was scratch like in the past? Was the website an different?
joeisawesome:In the past Scratch had a more "varied" front page, so to say. Names like Bluestribute, Bobby500, or Newareagle were always seen up there. Forumwise, it was only recently until they made Inspiration & More and Text-based games. All we would post in was the Show and Tell Forum.
G: What improvements would you like to see in the next version of scratch?
j:Perhaps a gravity block would be nice, so you could do less coding for jumping and falling. And maybe a Free-form Select tool for the Paint Editor.
G: What improvements to the website would you like?
j:Seeing the everllasting conflict caused by the lack of games and too much art on the Front Page, a filter would be in suggestion. When uploading a project, you have two options to put it in: Games, or Arts. Then the Games would have a "Top viewed, loved, remixed, downloaded, etc." on the Front Page, and same with the Arts.
G: Any thoughts about the future of the front page?
j:Hopefully they will do something to destroy the battle between Games and Art on the Front Page.
G: What "era" of scratch are we in?
J:Personally I have to say we are in the era of Forum Dragon Hatching.
G: What is something special about this time in Scratch history?
j:We get to see some art on the Front, which we never had back in the day.
G: What are a few things you think the next "generation" of Scrathers will remember about this time?
j: The dragons.
G: How do you want to leave your mark on Scratch?
j:To make sure that all members, old or new, carry on our traditions and make us live on.
G: What do you think every new member should know about Scratch?
j:It may see tough at first, but trust me, you'll get the hang of it, and maybe even get Front Page!
1. A fakedex is short for fake pokedex. You can make many fakemon (fake pokemon) that you think would be good for a pokemon game.
2. The main people who look at my fakedex are Mr Mokey, Robotkitty, and Joeisawesome. some times Igglepie.
3. Well, i really enjoyed looking at other peoples fakedexes. Also, I liked making fakemon. So I thought I could just post my pokemon on scratch and have a fakedex.
4. Well from my fakedex, I like my water starter Manasea. His 2 evolutions are Manice, and then to Unice.
5. I am a fan of the Scratcher Newspaper so its great that I get to see my fakedex in it. Scratch on!![]()

1. It's okay if you don't do it every week; I am going to have more cartoonists later.
2. Hmm...for the advertising suggestion I'll have a list of people who asked for it and only do about 5 or 10 an issue.

I might be a story writer. How long should the stories be each week? A few paragraphs?
Also, I would suggest that the comics be above the story, because the story will take longer to read.

Here's an article:
Dragons Take Over Signatures!
First it was advertisements. Then it was brawlcards. Now it's... Dragons?
That's right, the current fad regarding signatures is dragon eggs and hatchlings. Whether it's "Click to save the dragons!" or simply "Click!" rasing dragons is all the rage. In nearly every topic, you'll find somebody who has eggs in their signature. There are even entire topics dedicated to the hatching and clicking of dragons.
But the dragons aren't bothersome. Their images are small and easy to fit in a signature, so they can meet their clicking requirements. The eggs are quite colorful, and have fabulous artwork. Sometimes, it's just fun to surf the forums looking at everybody's dragons.
Who knows how long this craze will last? All I know is that that egg is going to die if it doesn't hatch in __ days and __ hours, so keep clicking!

Here is the beginning of the story. You can quote this post to get the code.
Escape to a New Earth
Author's Note: Please do not criticize this for the religious content; there will be some cool sci-fi later on![]()
Parte I: Endeworldei, the World's End
The year was 3220, over two hundred years after the end of the Millennium. Technology had progressed quickly when humans returned to the old world--as had the evil. Every law in existence had been ignored, and anarchy reigned supreme in the land. (PARADOX?)
Not so with one family, however. The corruption did not affect the last few members of the Knights' family, who tried to follow all the laws in the Bible, knowing that their relative goodness made them a prime target for every gunman, bomber, or other inhuman creature. However, they realized that the second judgment was drawing near--the destruction by fire.
The Knights' young son, Quinn, was always very daring and adventurous, and nearly got caught a few times while scouting around outside. One day, however, he found a small rock with the following carved into it:
Not knowing what it said, he just brought it home and asked his parents. They looked shocked when they saw it, but did not understand the language either. "It appears to be an artifact from the Old World," said his father. "Maybe even..." He stopped and shook his head.
That night, Quinn dreamt that he heard a voice saying, "Three there shall be, and the third you are." He looked up and saw a bright light, but was blinded by it. "You have been chosen to escape this evil planet, and will be given the gift of tongues."
When he woke up, he looked at the rock again, but this time he could read it. It said:
There was another Noah.

What Ever Happened to the Scratch Olympics?

The above quote was taken from the most recent post on the sticky "The Olympics Scratched Up!!" That's what I've been wondering too. What happened?
Only a few weeks ago, the Olympics was all the rage, and nearly all the new projects from scratch's best had something to do with the olympics. But now....?
When it started up, I was a bit skeptical. But when I saw how long we had, I was amazed. I could do this! So I signed up, on Germany's Alstar team. It was one of the only teams at that time. But only a day later, there were too many teams to count! Only a few days later, the contest was stickied.
And stragely enough, that's when things started to go downhill. The excitement started to wear off. You could only find the team homepages on the second or third page of show and tell.
But apperently, according to technoman, the owner of the contest, it's still up and running. My only concern now is that technoman might not be able to judges. After all, his contest being so popular, how many people are left who haven't entered?

(I was afraid of that. Posting it here means that everyone has read it before the newspaper is even published...)
I'm still working on the rest of it. At this rate, the whole story could be done by the time the second or third issue is out
