That's very strange. A few members of the the Scratch Team use Firefox on Mac OS. My feeling is that your Java virtual machine might not be up to date or installed properly.

Firefox has been available for Mac OS X for a long time. In fact, I believe that even the first release of firefox ran on Mac OS X.

mr_feez: it's possible your Firefox is not linked to the Java virtual machine as your Safari is. Try going to this page to see which version of Java you have http://www.javatester.org/version.html and click on Installing Java if you have an old version or if you don't have Java at all.

I'm having the same problem... You might want to stick with safari.
I'm taking a break from Scratch until 2.0 comes out. Any messages sent between then and now probably won't be read - sorry.

Hi, all.
I use the same Java installation with both Safari and Firefox on Mac OS X 1.4. It's been a while, but I seem to recall that when I installed it there was an option to install it for all the web browsers it could find, including both Safari and Firefox. So you might try re-installing Java and looking for that option. (You may need to uninstall it first, but the installer will probably tell you if that's the case.)
If you are using the Java that came pre-installed with your Mac, it seems especially likely that you just need to re-install Java so it can add the right hooks to Firefox.

I have had no trouble with java in firefox on my Mac OS 10.3 machines. I did have trouble with it at work on the Linux boxes, so I had the tech staff install new versions of firefox and java. That solved the problem. I suggest reinstalling java, to make sure that firefox has the latest version.

...I'd sugest dubble checking on your Java. It might not be updated.

I have been using Scratch on Mac OS X (10.3.9) with Firefox since scratch first came out, and have had no trouble. I did have trouble with the Scratch player on a Linux machine using firefox, but that was fixed by updating the rather ancient versions of firefox and the java virtual machine on that linux box.
As others have suggested, try installing java again, and make sure that it updates all your browsers.
