ITopic: Uploading and Downloading projects on the Scratch website

This is a guide to show you how to download and upload projects on the scratch website.

Uploading projects to the Scratch website

Once you make your project, and you are ready to upload it to the scratch webiste, click on the "Share" button on the top of the screen when you are in Scratch.
http://i25.tinypic.com/rripft.jpg

You can also use the http://i31.tinypic.com/ayvo15.jpg icon. Either one will work the same. After you click on it, there will be a pop-up window that looks like this:
http://i28.tinypic.com/532p2w.jpg

You can fill in your profile information, and make a name for your project. You can also add project notes and create tags for your project. Don't worry if you don't like it later, you can always rename your project or edit the project notes, by clicking on the name or notes online. You can delete tags by clicking the X next to the tag you don't want. Once you are done with that, click OK, and your project will be uploaded to the Scratch website. Once you see this icon
http://i28.tinypic.com/1zfmvl1.jpg
that means your project was successfully uploaded, and everyone can now see it on the Scratch website.

Downloading projects on the Scratch website

If you don't have Java player, or you want to download for better play ability or to see the scripts, This will tell you how. First, go to the project that you want to download. On the right of the screen, You will see a box that says "Download this Project!"
http://i26.tinypic.com/2zzp5pz.jpg

To download the project, click on the project name in that box. It should be blue and underlined
http://i31.tinypic.com/24c9n54.jpg

After you click on that, A pop-up window will come up asking if you want to Open, Save, or Cancel. Click the Open button.
http://i32.tinypic.com/24e9y6b.jpg

After you click the open button, there may be another pop-up window asking if you want to "Allow" or "Run" depending on what type of Windows you have. Click on "Run" or "Allow" and it will download the file and open it in Scratch. Then you can play it and view the scripts!

This guide is for Windows OS. I'm not sure how the Mac works. If anyone wants to tell me how to upload and download projects on a Mac, I will be glad to update this with Mac information also.

That's only for Internet Explorer, if you want to download projects for Safari, Google Chrome, etc, then it is different.

everything is the same except for the options after you click "download project". Then, whatever comes up, make sure you click the option to "run" or "open". not save. if anything else comes up, and you don't know what to do, just let me know and i will try to figure it out.

Re: ITopic: Uploading and Downloading projects on the Scratch website

My Problem is: Uploading works: Projekts are visible in "My Stuff", but none of my friends can see the projects. What do I have to do to make a projekt visible to everybody?

Projects can't become invisible, so everybody should be able to see them  smile .

Just link your friends to you user page http://scratch.mit.edu/users/SwissJany and you're projects are there. If they're new, it may take a few days/weeks before the search box can find them..

Re: ITopic: Uploading and Downloading projects on the Scratch website

For Macintosh computers, after you download a project, the "Downloads" window will pop up with all the previous downloads and the current download:
http://i46.tinypic.com/2vjsb4h.jpg

After it finishes downloading, double-click on the Scratch icon that represents the project.http://i50.tinypic.com/2qi1axi.jpg
Or you can open up normal Scratch and go to your downloads section and choose the desired project, and víola!. Hope this helps!  smile

The following no longer applies.

LATER: I will add a photo, but I am currently using a Windows comuter. I won't have access to a Mac until tonigt at around 6:00PM or 7:00Pm Mountain Time.

PS: Do you know if there is any way to post a picture directly from your memory right onto a forum thread without having to put it on a different website first? Thanks!  big_smile

Unfortunately, there's no way to do that. TinyPic is really easy to use, though, so I'd suggest you do that.

Exactly the same way, although instead of a pop-up, a bar at the bottom of the screen should appear.  smile

You can definitely make animations on Scratch! A better tool for powerpoint presentations might be PowerPoint, as Scratch only has a very small screen, however.

Re: ITopic: Uploading and Downloading projects on the Scratch website

Sorry, pretty big bump here, but I'm looking for some help and I figured I'd better post on here than make a whole new thread.

When I attempt to download a project, it all works normal until a window comes up saying 'squeak:please select an image file'. I asks me to select a .image file. If I don't, then nothing happens. If I do, Scratch opens up, but just with a plain project as if nothing has been done. I have tried various projects and have tried on both IE7 and Firefox 4. I get the same thing each time. If it makes any difference, I downloaded Scratch 1.4 as a zip file.
What can I do to download these projects?

Thanks heaps,

pi-cubed.
