The first release of the Scratch Connector from redware is available. It is a windows program that will connect two Scratch applications over a network or over the internet and pass messages and global variables using the enable remote sensors option in Scratch 1.3 and 1.4. Please download and give me some feedback.

Excellent!
I must say, it is a good replacement for the mesh feature. (however I think we can all agree that that was best).
I will certainly find it to be a worthwhile addition to scratch when you allow more than two projects to connect!

Thanks billyedward. I never saw the mesh feature and I have been told elsewhere that scratch users did have a connection feature at one point. The server is coming but I still have to sort out programming conventions so you can play more than a two player game....

Does this allow computers to be connected if they aren't using the same internet connection? like from 2 different houses?

No, I mean 0.3. 0.2 is still based off of scratch 1.3, but 0.3 will be based off 1.4.
Mesh is a 1.4 feature, so that is why it will wait until 0.3.

Yes, it does.
As long as they are connected to an IP based network (almost every one), then they can use snyff or mesh.

AHA! WRONG!
You can access a simple mesh program in 1.3!
And It has usernames!
Just go to the usual stuff, except go to "extra menu" instead of "menu/button actions"!
Me and my friend Hyperion23 meshed inbetween 1.4 and 1.3!

I believe that you are thinking of scratchconnections. That came out is 1.3, and contains no native way to connect two projects, just the API.
Mesh is a scratch extension of scratchconnections, which allows you to connect up multiple scratch projects within only scratch.

Simpler, please? My friend and I played a multiplayer pong game...
...so I don't get what you are saying.

Mesh is built into scratch, python is external, like Snyff and i think Scratch Connector.
