I delete them once in a while. Before they changed the message system, I had over 5500. Altogether I have 8000+
I rarely go on Scratch now, so I maybe get about 10 each day.
Right now: 
Last time I took a picture, around one year ago.
archmage probably has the most, maybe 5000 now, 15000 total.

i delete mine when im done, but i would take a guess at at least 4000 but i cant really know for sure

Today, I got this many:
The most I've ever had that I can remember is 8, but I usually get 0-2 a day. 
I'm taking a break from Scratch until 2.0 comes out. Any messages sent between then and now probably won't be read - sorry.

Based on the number of comments on my projects I have 1500+ messages from my 5 most popular projects, plus say another 300 from the remainder, another 300 or so from the projects I recently deleted, and maybe another 300 for "Project has been added to a gallery" and other system messages.

Everyday i probably get around 70 messages a day because my project is on the front page lol but normally i most likely will get like 10

At one point I had 1252 messages from being gone on vacation. But I delete my messages.
So, I do believe I've had over 1300 messages.

Now the most I've ever had at once is 27! Because Lanie favorited one of my projects! When I came on this morning I was like "Who's spamming on my projects?" Then I click the messages, see that they're almost all on one project, look on the front page, and then there it is!
