On the "Locking downloads": For those of you who have a dsi system, with wi-fi, and Flipnote Hantena, you know that there is locking downloads. There has always been a lot of rage on that, and huge fights, and even stuff like: Add a million stars and I will unlock. Its just a huge mess, and I would hate to see something like that happen on Scratch. While you can still download things on Flipnote, just not edit them, it still causes huge messes. I think Flipnote Hantena/Nintendo has a reason to do this, because a lot of people copy other people, and they layout is a little weird, so it literally looks like they're own, yet its actually someone else's. And there is so many things on Flipnote Hantena, that it would be a little hard to moderate every one, so I think Nintendo has an excuse, except it still causes huge messes, fights and "add a million stars and I will unlock", or if this gets into most popular, I will unlock. (Most popular you probably guessed is like Featured projects) I would hate to see something like that happen on Scratch, has I think its one of the only places on the net that is full of mostly nice people, and is moderated well, not like YouTube, who has more teens, and people who use cuss words and insult people, its just a little overwhelming.
I quit Flipnote Hatena because it was no fun to see stolen flipnotes constanty on the top 10 list. But I think that those who use Scratch are much more responsible and considerate than elsewhere. Besides, Nintendo is lazy about that. They want to be the best without effort. Stars aren't fair either, since you can add as many as you want. Let's not turn Scratch into a similar mess.

The scroll bars should be scroll wheel(keyboard and mouse) compatible.

Speech recognition has been used for military use for YEARS. Though I agree, it won't be very possible for squeak language.

I've just noticed that the title change is not helping.
I've seen at least 5 people suggest something on this list after the title change.
Maybe change the title name to something more demanding?
'MUST READ BEFORE SUGGESTING ANYTHING'?

I think it's because they can't see this thread, so changing the title again won't make any difference...

Because it's far away from the "Post new topic" link.

But it's not really a must, is it?

Yes it is.

(claps) Well put-together list of what not to suggest! These are, I agree, some important stuff to remember when making a suggestion.
For the 3D section, I will check out the "Alice" thing sometime. I, for one, love easy-to-use 3D game creators... like ROBLOX! This will be a really fun tool to use... hopefully!

About the sprite cloneing, couldn't you just use the stamp block to "clone" the sprite?
Offline
Yes. That is what people do now.

Sprite cloning.
Yes, but no.
See, the problem is, let's say you want 100 duplicates of a cat, right? (But you didn't want to import all those sprites, so you wanted sprite cloning.)
If you stamped it 100 times, and you wanted to rotate them, you'd have to clear then stamp them again, but if you just cloned them, they would all rotate.
It's even more complicated when you're moving...
If you want it to make it move 2 steps each second, each second you'd have to be stamping 100 of them moving two steps...
It'd require a lot of lists or calculations...

It should be.
All creators of threads with things on this list that just made a thread should be banned from making a new suggestion for one day or something...
There's been way to many of these suggestions.
I GOTS AN IDEA!
How about when you click "post new topic", it'll say:
is your suggestion one of the following?
[list]
before you press the "submit button".

If anyone doesn't mind me adding my two cents on the age issue: ever wonder why most websites put an age restriction at around 14 years? There are a lot of security measures in place with which to protect minors (such as COPPA in the U.S., for example). The internet can be a good place, but it can be a bad place as well - these security acts are in place to protect minors from gaining access to what most people consider inappropriate for those under around 14 years of age.
Granted that there are those younger than 14 who act more mature (and those older than 14 who act immature, but that is besides the point), but with some of the content that moderators have to deal with at time at times (such as pornography, for example), it becomes a rather risky thing to have someone underage being exposed to this, aside from the other pressures of being a moderator.

My source is COPPA's own darn website.
A limit is perfectly reasonable, but 14 seems too strict. And I hear the argument "it's not about maturity, it's about 13 and under's ability to handle risky things like pornography". You know why different people handle it different ways? MATURITY!

The whole point is that Apple rejected it.
There has already been one.
And, it's hard enough programming Scratch again on flash, let's see you try XCode.
Programming in the real world isn't as easy as Scratch.
You just don't go *poof* and you have it.

Actually that's not the argument at all, it's more of an issue that the Scratch Team is uncomfortable with giving the duties of a moderator to those under 14 years of age (much like a parent wouldn't allow kids to do or see certain things even if the child may be mature enough to handle it. This reason also plays into the fact that the Scratch Team would like to talk to the parents of the moderator first before the moderator officially takes up the position).
Actually, this forum has a pretty low age restriction when it comes to moderator positions. Some other forums bump up moderator positions to older ages such as 16, 18, 19, or 21 (largely because they don't feel comfortable with holding younger-aged users under a moderator contract) - if anything, the 14 year age restriction is pretty lax when considering that it's only one age higher than what's recommended in most government laws.
(Why are we even still talking about this? The age restriction is a long-time solved suggestion. ^^U).

14. Sprite cloning
Imagine this... you're in a fighting game. You pilot your plane with expert skills (because of course you're that good!), dodge some bullets, and begin firing a stream at the boss.
Agh! Only three bullets at a time! You thump the controls (keyboard) and wait for the bullets to go offscreen. Then you can continue firing.
What you want is a method of sprite cloning, where you can fire infinite (theoretically) bullets at your enemies and annihilate them. Well... supposing you could, the project would get extremely laggy and your gun would overheat.
There don't seem to be any satisfying reasons why this feature has not been added, but the most likely is the fact that it would slow down the project and confuse users. Also, imagine reading x and y positions of each clone and controlling them seperately... agh.
There seems to be a way to build blocks that will do the job - but beware.
The lag problem could easily be over come by a "Delete Sprite" block. Just a suggestion
