I'm not Japanese so I have no clue what that food is, but ito me it looks like some kind of brown meat with rice or something. So what exactly IS that meat? Oh, it's a pokemon. And also, those other pokemon who are in the wild; some of them are like dogs and last time I checked, dogs liked to eat meat. So they must be cannibals, or they eat other pokemons

In the original games and series, the pokemon took the place of animals. There was a whole 'food chain' for the games, but it was dropped once the series became 'kid friendly'.

In the descriptions of the pokemon in the pokedex from the first games. They mentioned animal-like qualities, such as, "pidgey go after caterpie."
