memory

whenever i try to go more in depth and make better projects it comes up with something saying squeak etc... runing out of memory and stuff like that.  why does this happen, because after like 2 hours of work losing everything is really irritating and honestly i dont plan on redoing it for a couple of weeks because i just don't have the time.  why does this happen and is there a chance that you could make this happen less often for future versions?  i have to admit i don't know much about it  smile

Re: memory

It is saying that you ran out of ram I think. No real way around that I think.

Hi, I am Archmage coder extraordinaire. I do Scratch, pascal, java, php, html, AS2 and AS3. Leave me a message if you want coding advice. Also check out my personal website, lots of good stuff about web development, Flash, and Scratch (v1 and v2) !

Re: memory

Well, I've gotten this message before, and I think that it means that Squeak, what Scratch is built with, is running out of memory for running that project. When I got the error message, it had a TON of graphics.

There is no real way around this, as archmage said. The only way you can partially prevent losing all your data is to save the program periodically.

As for future versions, maybe Squeak or Scratch will increase its memory. Who knows?

Re: memory

That happened to me. My project was small, and it had practically NO graphics whatsoever. The problem seemed to be that a friend sent it to me over e-mail, but he's been able to send me other projects. The project itself crashed the program, not anything else. It had nothing to do with the memory.

FantasyTales, try saving all your sprites to the desktop, and creating a new program. Kind of annoying, but it worked for me.

2GB RAM? That's insane (for me, anyways. I'm used to my 256MB RAM).
All you really need to do is that, but it can be expensive. My computer always complains about running outta RAM.

Re: memory

Before I bought more RAM, Scratch often did the Text Glitch. After increasing RAM, Text Glitch appears rarely. S-1.4 also has optimized code and it has better RAM management (I think so).

I don't htink that really has anything to do with RAM.

Ram is really very cheap now a days based on your pcs ram type
ddr1 2 gb is available for 4000 rs in india
DDR 2 is abailable the same for 1700 rs in india
DDR 3 is somewhat very pricy but i dont think ur pc might need DDR3

Make sure u check the prices in your country
