Re: Preliminary Version of Scratch 1.4 Available for Testing

^^ i agree... i think i may not even switch to 1.4 because of the color picker. i almost never use the rainbow and the color picker is the most important part of my drawing. i think that the costume drawing window could just be turned back in to what it was before, none of the changes made there make it any better, they make it worse.

i also like the old menu bar, and i think that should go back to the way it was also. i like the new blocks, but if the menu bar and drawing area are gonna be changed, no deal, unless to download other ppl's 1.4 projects.

please change the menu bar and color picker back! please!!!

EDIT: i actually think that you could make this the same as 1.3, + the new blocks, + the different view modes. otherwise, there's no need for change.

Re: Preliminary Version of Scratch 1.4 Available for Testing

I love 1.4, but I miss the old interface. I really love the new question block, but wanted to see a specific broadcasting block that sends to only one sprite.

It clearly has a lot of potential, but in that version it was also difficult to set up a mesh (e.g. you had to type in raw IP addresses) and some aspects of the communication were confusing.

Networked Scratch has potential, but it needs more work. We will continue to think about it and perhaps it will appear in a future version of Scratch.

Oh no! That was the main thing I was looking forward to in 1.4! I guess I'll have to wait for the next version. Please get it working as quickly as possible. String blocks and the new boolean are fairly useful but not as great as I had hoped. One nice feature of 1.4 is the new screen size which helps give scratchers much more space to script. Overall, 1.4 is a nice update but not as great as expected.

Re: Preliminary Version of Scratch 1.4 Available for Testing

Multiplayer thing was possible even in 1.3.1 by a hack with sensor boards blocks (you've got to know python or other "real" programming language). But I'd be happy to see this functionality at work (Downloading Snyff).
For the interface, I like new one, but who got this weird idea to remove colours from drawing window? You could just leave it as it was!
Text functions are great, but I still miss some things from JavaScript. Actually, they're toUpperCase() and toLowerCase(). (More like { Put [ ] to UPPERCASE } and { Put [ ] to lowercase }).

in small stage, if you click a sprite, (like on the sprite menu) it highlights large stages sprite not the small small stage sprite

Darn it!  I was planning on making a multiplayer Super Smash Bros. game. There aren't many changes with 1.4 though I love the new interface and the paint viewer has a wider variety of colors. I hope you consider the mesh in 1.5.

Does anyone have a copy of one of the old betas with the "mesh" feature? I'm trying to emulate it but I'm not quite sure how it worked.

Use Snyff from http://scratchconnections.wik.is/User:Chalkmarrow/Snyff - it's based on Adobe AIR, and mentioned on multiple posts on the Forums.

Re: Preliminary Version of Scratch 1.4 Available for Testing

I like it for the most part... HOWEVER I liked the old paint program that was on there, also after scratch 1.4 starts I click the maximize button and the window resizes but not the scratch interface, there is just white space. But when I enter presentation mode and exit it fixes it for a while.

Yeah, I know. I had to modify it to get 1.4 sensor connections working at all so I decided to write my own version.

Re: Preliminary Version of Scratch 1.4 Available for Testing

Found a bug:
Sometimes blocks will completely cancel out the script, which frustrates me to the point of looking at them menacingly and shouting extra colorful words at them. This has happened twice to me. These are the blocks that have so far activated this bug.

Please fix this bug, it's really quite annoying and infuriating and, well, some other words I would probably get a wagging of the finger for using.

Re: Preliminary Version of Scratch 1.4 Available for Testing

Motor blocks is a giant step in Scratch 1.4. With this stuff we can make Scratch interact more intens with real world situation. Are the motor blocks in this new Scratch can communicate directly with motor on GoGoBoard (which is built in) or Arduino too, not just Lego? Because I have succesfully using GoGoBoard to detect resistance sensor. Can I ask in this thread or should I ask in Sensor Board forum? Thank you for your answer.

Bug Report:

Image sometimes goes black and white during rotation. Here's a screenshot of the bug:

File type of image being rotated was a .gif file. Image was imported and shrunk first prior to rotation.

Re: Preliminary Version of Scratch 1.4 Available for Testing

I've got the release candidate, and part of my program I'm making includes the mod operator.  It doesn't work correctly.

Repeat until remainder of <variable1> / 15 = 3
set <variable1> to pick random -198 to -3
end repeat

The it keeps assigning <variable1> with a number with a remainder of 12.  Please advise
I should note that I'm using the windows version.

Curious about Scratch version 1.4? Willing to test a pre-release version to help us find bugs?

The preliminary version of Scratch 1.4 (officially known as "Scratch 1.4 Release Candidate") is now available at:

    http://info.scratch.mit.edu/Scratch_1.4_Release_Candidate

The final version of Scratch 1.4 is expected at the end of June. It will include improvements to the sample projects, updated translations, and fixes to any major bugs that show up during testing.

If you try this preliminary version, you should update to the final version when it becomes available.

Yeah I just found that not to long ago and I posted the first scratch 1.4 project online! Here it is: http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/Tag4eva/559880
