I don't know if this has been said or asked yet, but how do you use the camera thing?
To use the camera thing, you need a webcam. I have an old PS2 Eyetoy that I've rigged as a webcam, I really need to try it out.

I'm using Vista Home Preninum.
The Programming mode is laggy, presentation is NOT.
It kinda starts when Scratch starts.
The blocks and other stuff are moving a bit slow...

In a separate thread in Suggestions, Fullmoon had a couple of great ideas that you might want to consider:
fullmoon wrote:
Scratch has finally evolved to the point where we can use the (distance to [Sprite]) and ([property] of [Sprite]) blocks with reporters as the sprite parameter. This is all fine and dandy, but two issues arise from it:
-It can reference a sprite that doesn't exist. Say you have a sprite called "banana" and you set the variable (sprite) to "bannana". Trying to access (distance to (sprite)) doesn't tell you anything about whether the sprite exists or not. If it instead returned "undefined" or a friendlier "unknown", it would help immensely with debugging.
-A sprite doesn't know what its name is. This could be remedied with a simple "my name" block in Sensing. It would take about five seconds to implement (four hours for me, but I could do it!) Think of the possibilities. Sprites could add their names to a list and dynamically get each others' properties. A [broadcast [Message] to [Sprite]] block would really make this awesome, but I'm not going to get into that.
Scratch team, please, consider these suggestions. They would make Scratch 1.4 so much easier to use.
The thread is here if you want to see the full discussion

Ok, Scratch team, a list of bugs:
1) You can't go to Full Screen mode.
2) Camera, it's not working, I tried 4 webcams.
3) It's EXTREMELY laggy!
Yes I think thats it .

A weird thing
Scratch runs at normal speed for me when the PAINT EDITOR is open.

Hi, 11alex, ihaveamac, and anyone else who reported that Scratch is slow or laggy):
What operating system are you using (e.g. XP, Vista, Mac OS)? (I already know ihaveamac is using Vista Home Premium.)
Does Scratch 1.4 feel noticeably slower than Scratch 1.3.1 did?
If you are running Vista, do you see any display problems when you re-size the Scratch window?
Thank you!

I have Vista Basic and it takes around 40 seconds for the screen to resize properly (like if i maximise the screen the white section on the right doesn't go away for 40 seconds - scratch 1.3.1 it resized in a second)
and i use the 'undo' button ALOT (for moving scripts around mainly) and i probably wont use it as much when it's in the Edit menu - maybe an icon for this would be good.
i definitely dont like the colour picker, i think we needed more preset colours to pick from then less - this is because i like to (and sometimes have to) use the same colours for different sprites and using the preset colours is a good way to use the same colours.
overall a good upgrade, but a few unneccesarry moves like the colour picker and the undo function.

I am running Windows Vista.
I tried making a quick project using the "question/answer" thing. When you use the block "join ___ ___", you might want to automatically make a space between the two open spaces, so you don't have to manually put the space in.
Another thing you should change is in the paint window. The Click/Drag selector tool, where you select an area then rotate/shrink/etc should be able to go free-form instead of just a box.

I'd love to see the network scratch in later versions. Maybe 1.5?
It is avalable very vaguely in this version. Limited, but vague. It's called Mesh. It seems they've removed it from this version, or I forgot how to access it. Instead, use Chalkmarrow's Snyff: http://scratchconnections.wik.is/User:Chalkmarrow/Snyff
You need to download Adobe AIR for that. Not everybody can download it.

Curious about Scratch version 1.4? Willing to test a pre-release version to help us find bugs?
The preliminary version of Scratch 1.4 (officially known as "Scratch 1.4 Release Candidate") is now available at:
http://info.scratch.mit.edu/Scratch_1.4_Release_Candidate
The final version of Scratch 1.4 is expected at the end of June. It will include improvements to the sample projects, updated translations, and fixes to any major bugs that show up during testing.
If you try this preliminary version, you should update to the final version when it becomes available.

You can. its in the top right coner.
Though it should be eazyer to see.
Few suggestions:
Make the font list cover the whole screen, or make it an option for whole screen or coloum. I have looooooooooooads of fonts on this pc.
Add the old colouras back to the pallet!
Add colours that can be saved, so then if i get a nice sahde of purple, i would find it hard getting it back again with no saver, but with 1... it would be eazyer.

Awesome, but when the full release comes out. Can we open our previously saved work from Scratch 1.3.1 in Scratch 1.4? This could be a big problem. I also got Vista Home Premium.

If color chooser could be working outside paint windows, and in scratch stage windows, it should be easy to reuse nice color, and very good when import sprite and want to trigger on a color in others sprites!
I very happy with 1.4 beta it took 20 blocks to make a simple friendly math gameAdd

i tried it and it is awesome. one bug is that sprites can not move fast they will move 10 steps, wait a sec, then move 10 steps and repeat. great for animations tho!!!

I think I found a glitch... when you change a variable to large readout and move it, save it, then open it later, it goes back to normal readout and then goes to the corner where it started. Also, (This kinda happened with 1.3...) Online, the hide/show variable doesn't work. That only 2 things I found! Keep up the good work MIT!

Strange thing...
When using Vista Home Preninum, the program is so laggy.
When using Mac OS 10.4, the program works at normal speed.

i agree with a few people above - a colour picker whr u u can set a preset colour wud be good. BUT MORE PRESET COLOUR!

Mesh! Mesh! Who cares if it doesn't work properly? it should be at least added to extras, and then possibly worked on for the next official release of Scratch,
I'm using Vista Home premium, and the program also lags on my machine. I also get the full screen bug too.
