Projects made with v1.4

Well since most people know what 1.4`s features will be from JSO`s project, what do projects you expect that you or others will make?

I hope that people will find new ways to make projects using the string features, however I don't have very high hopes for the online connection features.

Post what you think  smile

Strings are words, string blocks control words

Here is JSO's project

Thanks for linking xD

I think people should see the online connection thing as an experimental feature - that most Scratch users won't (be able to) use.

However, it would be cool if "Scratch Network' servers are set up all over the world... But that probably is impossible.

However, the String features allow so much more...

Re: Projects made with v1.4

You could make more projects where the user can type in something, like their name, and then that name could be used in the game; for example like you see in RPGs.

Yeah I think too many people are expecting too much from the experimental online features. They are really only good for very simple things and I think it will confuse most people.

Re: Projects made with v1.4

I don't have the beta, so I'm wondering if it's possible to use the new "ask [ ] and wait" block with a sprite that is hidden? I ask because you can't use a "say" block on a hidden sprite, and I imagine most Scratchers don't want to have a speech bubble pop up every time it's necessary to input text.

Re: Projects made with v1.4

I'm making a stickman rpg...
Now with the new blocks for words, I won't have to use endless lists just to record what each character says. Really, I think with the new word blocks, a lot has been made simpler.

That's probably why I didn't update the 1.4 features project when I knew about the built-in networking features. I already used them though - they are also included in Scratch 1.3.1, it just requires a very small modification in the source code (setting a variable to true where it says false)

However, when you use the shared vars in a clever way, you can do fast and smooth animations/gameplay on all computers in a network. I think the Scratch connections wiki will be a good place to discuss  smile  It does requires a *lot* of planning and thinking... Not like with normal projects.

Re: Projects made with v1.4

1.4 is coming out. I'll be glad when it comes out. I am new here so even if it is hard to try to do "Mesh" features I will eventually get it. You know what they say... You learn something new everyday! big_smile
