Re: Become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage

I want to be a curator because I always see projects that are amazing, but never get "famous". This might sound weird, but sometimes I see projects that get "famous" that AREN'T that good. Just so everyone is clear, I would NEVER choose my own projects. There is one of my projects that I really want to get popular, but I think there are better projects that deserve it more than me.

Re: Become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage

How do you know if the people who want to be curators really will be good curators?
They could be hypnotizing you in just this message? I have heard of that....... Anyways, do you look at their projects, comments, posts, etc. to determine whether they'd be a good curator? >BLUSH< I would like to be a curator, but you must judge people on something......
see, I've noticed you tend to accept people who seem to have done more posts, people who write longer, more detailed posts....... I'M CONFUSED!

Re: Become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage

Well, they can't really know, I guess they will just have to live with it if a bad curator is picked. If the curator picks inappropriate projects, then the curator could be impeached. Again, I am not a member of the Scratch Team, so I really don't know.

The Scratch Team also looks at users who have had a good history on the Scratch site such that they will unlikely abuse the curator system.

About the long, detailed posts issue: an awful lot of people requesting to be curator have forgotten or ignored this:

andresmh wrote:

As you submit your application to be a curator, please tell us more about you and your goals as a curator. This will help us make our decision.

Those who follow this rule will more likely to have longer posts because they describe in detail who they are and what they want to accomplish as curator. Those who didn't follow this are likely to have itty-bitty short posts that are more likely to be overlooked.

Re: Become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage

I am interested in games that are just, well, all-around good!  I am not very picky, but I can tell by a scratch project if it is good.  I have lots of friends who are good scratch programmers, and I would discuss the game or clip with them.  I will admit, however, honestly, I am not a very good programmer.  I would really like to be a curator.  My goals as a curator would be to please all other scratchers who visit the main scratch page.  One more thing, I would not post projects that have been repeatedly shown recently.  Thank you for reading.

Re: Become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage

I am interested in being curator. I currently have a list of 73 project that play well on the web. The vast majority of them games, a few of what I call desktop toys.  I would be able to rotate 2 sets of new projects in a day, as that would only require me to find a total of 84 projects. Wait 6 of those have come from previous curators - so I would try to replace those or at least run those last.

I hope I'm most known for setting up a separate scratch arcade (now with search functions).

I originally looked at scratch as something to show my son who is 5, now I try to show that scratch is a real programming language and a good choice for certain projects.  I have entered Ludums with it, and am in a second competition now using it.

Re: Become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage

I'm not saying I want to be curator that that badly, but it's not fair, because by accident I uploaded an inapropriate word to scratch just because of a mis- spelling, and since that's now in my history, I'll never be made curator, even if I wanted to. Boo hoo.
Any suggestions?

Oh yeh, everyone keeps saying, "oh please let me be curator" but as
I quote,
" andresmh wrote:

(I didn't quote it because I didn't want it to be at the top)

How could you abuse the job of curator?

Well, the curator has his/her choices of three projects on the front page at any time. Abuse of the curator system can range from posting posting projects by bribery to posting inappropriate projects.

But wouldn't innapropriate projects already have been removed or flagged? And also, what do you mean by 'bribery' as such?

Some inappropriate projects can still escape through the cracks (that is, they may go unnoticed for a while until someone flags them down and they are removed); there also also projects with a certain degree of violence that which, although allowed, are just not considered front page material (there's a whole discussion about this. You can read it here). And when I mean bribery, I mean getting the curator to feature a project in exchange for something else in return (for example, adding a Love It! to a curator's project in exchange for a feature).

Favoritism towards friends could also be another abuse of the curator system (I suppose here one could argue that a curator could believe that his/her friends projects are good enough to be featured, but I believe you'll understand what I mean here by 'favoritism').

Re: Become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage

I would like to be a scratch curator- i don't choose projects by how good they are, i choose them by how much thought and effort has actually gone into them. And i wont be prejudice against ANYTHING or ANYONE. :-) [blocks] <go to front> [/blocks]
