Re: Become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage

I definitely want to be a curator. And, here are a few good reasons why:

1:I make helpful comments whenever and wherever possible.

2:I have a great game that took me a long time to make, which I think deserves more views (Ten Questions Of Doom, if you are interested)

3: If selected as a curator I would search through all of scratch and pick only the finest, most wonderful projects there are, then carefully examine each one and pick 3 for the front page

4: I would never EVER put up projects because of bribery, and the projects would appeal to all audiences, girls, boys, and programmers alike

5:While I don't have as much projects as other people, I am planning on making 8 more over the summer. Also, unlike many scratchers most of mine will be very high quality

6: I have a lot of experience  watching movies, then rating them in my head, so I'll be able to pick some enjoyable ones.

7: While the attention is nice, that's not one of the reasons I want to be a curator. I want to be a curator because I think it could benefit scratch and it's many many many people.

8: Instead of just saying " I want to be a curator" I actually took the time to make this list

9: I see a lot of projects that don't get the credit they deserve.

So that's it! I hope you read it and carefully considerate me to be a curator.

Well, the curator has his/her choices of three projects on the front page at any time. Abuse of the curator system can range from posting posting projects by bribery to posting inappropriate projects.

But wouldn't innapropriate projects already have been removed or flagged? And also, what do you mean by 'bribery' as such?

Some inappropriate projects can still escape through the cracks (that is, they may go unnoticed for a while until someone flags them down and they are removed); there also also projects with a certain degree of violence that which, although allowed, are just not considered front page material (there's a whole discussion about this. You can read it here). And when I mean bribery, I mean getting the curator to feature a project in exchange for something else in return (for example, adding a Love It! to a curator's project in exchange for a feature).

Favoritism towards friends could also be another abuse of the curator system (I suppose here one could argue that a curator could believe that his/her friends projects are good enough to be featured, but I believe you'll understand what I mean here by 'favoritism').

I suppose. But also, are you even able to favourite your own projects? If so, that could collide with the whole idea of being a curator. Everyone (except you and Toasty) would put their own projects on the front page.

Re: Become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage

I'm not interested in being curator, but for anyone wishing to, I recommend my gallery. It's called the Recommended Projects gallery. Here's the link: http://scratch.mit.edu/galleries/view/39739 . You can browse through the forty-six projects (to date), and select some of them.

I actually discussed that problem with the Scratch Team during my time as curator. They assured me that projects created by the curator and made favorite by the curator will not appear on the front page.

Wait, so does that mean you CAN'T add your own projects to the projects you select?
I was not going to do that anyway, but half of the people just wanted to be a curator so they could add their own projects.

Re: Become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage

I would like to become a curator. I like helpful, funny and hard-to-program projects.
I would like to show them because I think that the scratch world needs this, because if someone is unliked but they make really good projects, then the scratch users should know, instead of steriotyping (correct spelling?) that person.
To whom it may concern, I would not even try to favorite my own projects (I know that it's not possible). I would be gratefull (correct spelling?) and honored if I was chosen.

Cool idea.  I'd love to be a curator, if possible. I'd pick projects that deserve to get views, but are unseen, and projects that could use views.  smile  Once again, great idea!

Indeed, a curator will not be able to add his/her projects to be featured, even if the curator has added them to his/her favorites. That pretty much eliminates nearly half the list of people who requested to be curator.  tongue

Re: Become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage

I want to be a curator because I like projects that have an innovative idea or problem and use creative programming. In the top remixed section, I don't like when the projects are just simple things that tell you to download it, change it a little, and re-upload it. I may not be to great at programming scratch, but I think that I could make a difference.

Re: Become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage

I would love to be a curator, and I'm on Scratch every day, so I can pick them pretty often. I would select ones that are truly great, that not many people have seen. I would like to show them because I want everyone who are great scratchers to have a chance to be seen. The best ones are always left in the cold. So I would want to make all the good ones have a chance to shine.  smile

Re: Become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage

Here are some other things I forgot to mention.
1. I would NEVER, EVER post because of bribery. I have no reason for that.
2. I would post helpful comments and constructive criticism wherever it's needed.
3. I will pick truly nice ones that have not been seen by many people.
4. Saying "I want to be curator" Isn't really giving any effort into it. I put effort into everything I do, like this.
Well, that's it. Scratch on!

I think i would choose english projects and projects in different languages because they enever get much attention, I would also pick simple yet intellegent and entertaining games and animations that are not so famous.
